With the Cup Series rumbling forward to its 2nd playoff round and returning to the intermediate track this week, 2-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has dropped an intriguing statement. Known for his direct and honest approach, Kyle ‘Rowdy’ Busch highlighted the value of genuineness, even going to the extent of calling the NASCAR Cup Series race at the mile and half-track “lackluster.”

What is more concerning for NASCAR fans is that the Richard Childress Racing driver also dropped a shocking revelation, mentioning that his worst nightmare about the Texas Motor Speedway is soon to become Atlanta Style track. Reflecting on his upcoming race at the venue, the RCR driver spoke his mind and did not mince his words, also mentioning the spectators’ hardships.

Kyle Busch speaks the truth and wants no more rework for the Texas track

Officials from NASCAR and Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage collaborated to implement a number of new circuit modifications. This happened after a lightning strike caused a hole that was 18 inches in diameter and 5.5 inches deep and reached the concrete base of the track. In addition to closing the Texas World Speedway and establishing a housing development with 400 homes, commercial space, nature paths, and room for a school, they struck a $55 million agreement to aid in the restoration.

Busch’s former rival, Brad Keselowski‘s No. 17, was one of the many to raise the concern. Chris Buescher felt that the $55 million deal that would alter the track was more of a deal-breaker from a driver’s standpoint. And with just hours to go for the grand marshal to wave off the race, Kyle Busch has also expressed his thoughts and confirmed the rumors.

During his pre-race presser, Kyle Busch was asked about his thoughts on scheduling the race to April, altering the current schedule. To this Busch effortlessly replied, “Yeah, I mean for whatever reason, say it for what it is.. speak the truth, right?– Texas (Motor Speedway) has been very lackluster lately. So being a playoff race, I’m not sure that we’re indicative of that.” 

“I’ve actually seen a lot of people say that it shouldn’t be on the calendar, period,” added the driver before delivering fans the harsh reality. He said, “All of us drivers would highly, highly, highly not want it to be reconfigured again into an Atlanta-style race track, but I hear rumblings of that’s where it’s heading. So that wouldn’t be fun.”

Imagine yourself sitting in the scorching Texas heat just to watch your favorite driver whizz past you. If that doesn’t sound like a good idea for the fainthearted, then NASCAR fans indeed are a “strong bunch”, like the 2-time champion said they are.

Reflecting on the reporters’ question, Busch mentioned how tough it is to weather the southern heat, especially during the summer. He said, “But yeah, I think the heat—if you strictly talk about weather, the heat, and stuff like that—look, I give NASCAR fans all the credit in the world because they are a damn strong bunch. They are passionate, and they are loving our sport as much as we want them to be.”

“But to be out in the 100-degree heat in aluminum grandstands, I’m not paying to do that. I’m getting paid to do that (laughs). So I give them credit where credit is due. That’s what it’s all about. You can talk about TV and everything else, but it’s all about putting people in the grandstands,” added the driver as he praised the sport’s avid fans as the backbone of it.

He then hinted to the organization and the authorities to take care of the ardent fans as he concluded his take, saying, “If we have empty crowds, we’re not going to be on TV. Get people in the stands and make it easier for them.”
