In the 2020 NASCAR Playoffs, the Joe Gibbs Racing team managed to get at least three of their four drivers through. If that is not teamwork, then what is? Recently, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr., and Denny Hamlin spoke to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about the power of being a unit.

Truex Jr. revealed that everyone is honest with each other until the race kicks off. He cited the example of the 2019 season where three of them made it into the Top-4. For a long time, things were normal between the three of them and there were no secrets.

In light of that, Martin Truex Jr. said, “It’s an open book and obviously, we all, each individually want to win, and our teams also want to win. But we do understand also that working together is what makes us strong and what gets us to where we’re at.

Their level of trust is so high that if a driver reports on any kind of data, the computer always tallied with them. So, by acting as a cohesive unit, they are able to help each other grow and improve. Denny Hamlin insisted that that is the way to go if a team wants long-term success.

When Kyle Busch took the microphone, he also agreed with his teammates. However, he could not resist a friendly dig at a former teammate, Cole Pearn. He described Pearn as the ‘shadiest shyster’, though he later admitted that he meant that in jest.

In the end, he also agreed that sharing their data was the key to their success. Busch also confessed that last year, lack of communication on the air pressure front, was their undoing.

Judging from their camaraderie, they are trying the same tactic again. However, at what point will it be every man for himself?
