“It’s Cute” – Kurt Busch Once Let Loose on the “Touchy Subject” of NASCAR’s Most “Overrated Driver” Chase Elliott

Two years after Chase Elliott started competing in NASCAR Cup Series with Hendrick Motorsports, Kurt Busch called the former out as being an overrated driver, in regard to his performance during that time.

Busch mentioned, “That’s a touchy subject… And it’s cute.”

“There’s different chosen ones or guys that take over iconic rides. But right now, Bill Elliott’s son — who is going to be a big-time player in our sport and has yet to win — is Chase Elliott.”

“But he’s doing a good job, it’s all starting to blend in, and I’d say he’s just slightly overrated right now without the race wins that he should have in the win column.”

During the time of Busch’s comments, Elliott had not scored any race wins. However, two years later, Chase Elliott would go on to win the Cup Series Championship.

If things go right in the current season with the playoffs, Elliott might be able to pick up his second Championship, as he leads the points board.

It took Chase Elliott 99 races to grasp his first Cup Series win

Chase Elliott, who is the son of legendary NASCAR driver Bill Elliott, took to the Cup Series as a full-time driver back in 2016. However, it took him a full two years to grasp his first victory.

Watkins Glen International proved to be the turning point in Elliot’s career, where finally, after 99 races, he scored his first win after battling Martin Truex Jr in the final lap until the latter fuel ran out.

It was sure an iconic moment to behold, as soon after the race during the cooldown lap, the Hendrick Motorsports driver too ran out of gas, prompting NACAR legend and teammate, Jeff Gordon to push his car onto victory lane.

Elliott took another two years to go on to get his first championship title. Moreover, this season, the Dawsonville native seems to be on top form, with multiple race wins pushing him to the top of the driver’s leaderboard.

With the playoffs about to being very soon, he goes in with a good advantage over other drivers. If he continues this form, he might very well be able to take home his second NASCAR Cup Series Championship title.
