Joey Logano saw his chance at a second NASCAR Cup Series title slip away as Chase Elliott’s lead kept growing towards the end of the championship race on Sunday.

Logano admitted recently that it came to a point where he knew he could not win the race unless a caution came out and gave him another chance.

At that moment, the Team Penske driver did think about spinning a car himself to bring out a caution, he revealed. Logano went through the scenario in his mind and if he could spin a lapped car in front of him. He could then have a chance to pit, come out in front out of the pit road. Later, he could go on to win the title.

The thought went through my mind. I’m not gonna lie and say the thought didn’t go through my mind,” Logano admitted in a recent interview. At the same time, he thought about the repercussions those actions would have.

Joey Logano expresses where he ‘draws the line’

“What does that say about your championship and your character? Everyone goes like, ‘where is the line’, right? That’s a real question you need to ask yourself, in the heat of the moment,” Logano said.

While he did think about bringing out a caution, Logano knew it wasn’t in the spirit of the competition. Logano is known to be someone who races hard and is not quite bothered about being in the good books of the other drivers, as he has admitted in the past. However, he does know where to draw the line.

You can’t do that. To me, it’s too far. Yes, you want to win the championship and championships mean everything…But it’s not the right thing to do, so you just don’t,” Logano expressed.

The 30-year-old further elaborated that he is alright pushing others down the straightaway and tagging others. He does that himself and is okay with others doing that to him. However, crashing others is out of the question.

You’re not out there to make friends, but there is still a right or wrong thing to do…Completely crashing somebody is something I think that’s too far,” Logano added.

Elliott’s car was just too fast. Logano was hopeful of a caution coming out and Elliott must have been nervous too, as the Xfinity and Truck championship races both saw late cautions that turned things around.
