Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing is bringing back an iconic car and a veteran racer. The team will attempt to run a third car in the 2024 Daytona 500. The #60 Ford Mustang will be driven by the team’s former full-time Cup Series racer, David Ragan, as a part of their new #Stage60 program. For David Ragan, the Daytona 500 is a race close to his heart and he will want to make himself proud by winning The Great American Race in February.

It has been a long time since David Ragan drove for Jack Roush’s team. The 37-year-old motorsports driver was a part of the team from 2006 to 2011, during which he claimed two race wins. Ragan also drove in the Xfinity Series for RFK Racing, winning two races in that stint.

Ask any race car driver in NASCAR today and everyone will say that the Daytona 500 is special. The rich history of The Great American Race goes back several decades. It is one of the most iconic and watched events of motorsports in the world today. As far as David Ragan is concerned, it is a special race for both him and his family.

“I’m so pumped up to be able to drive this fast race car in The Great American Race in February, just in a few months,” the 37-year-old said. “The Daytona 500 is a special race for me and my family. I’ve been so close to winning it a couple of times. So to be able to pilot the BuildSubmarines.com Ford #60 for RFK is gonna be a treat for sure,” he added.

David Ragan does have a decent record at the Daytona 500. He came mighty close to winning The Great American Race back in 2011. He was leading the race when the green flag fell for the first overtime attempt. However, an early lane change cost the then #6 driver dearly as he was penalized and only finished P14.

Apart from that, the 37-year-old has one top five and two top 10 finishes in his last four Daytona 500 races. His best result came as recently as 2020, when he finished the race in P4 for Rick Ware Racing. Ragan has a good record at superspeedways as his two wins in the Cup Series came at Talladega and the 2011 Daytona summer race.

The #60 Ford Mustang that David Ragan is set to drive is certainly one that holds a lot of significance. While it would be the first time the team runs the number in the Cup Series, its past is enamored with race wins and championships.

One take at a time

Drivers these days need to be more like Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace. Well, now you know who my favorites are. For me, it all began with my interest in F1, but I was just tired of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen showing unparalleled dominance.
