During a recent podcast, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Jeff Gordon sat down to answer a few questions regarding the time the two shared together. Gordon was asked about his thoughts when Dale Jr. left DEI in 2007 and went to Hendrick Motorsports.
“Well first I was like wow. I mean that was a big deal and I remember it was a very big storyline in the sport. On one hand, I wasn’t surprised,” Gordon said.
“I felt like what he was bringing to the table. I don’t know if everything else was aligning to give him the best opportunity to showcase what he was capable of doing.”

“There was some great opportunities out there Hendrick being one of them. So I was excited because I’m part of the business side of Hendrick. I saw a great opportunity that was going to help us grow our organization. I mean the sponsors were literally standing in line.”
He goes on to mention that it has never happened before that sponsors are literally lining up at the door and were in a bidding war against one another.
Dale Earnhardt Jr’s sister hints JR Motorsports could make a move to Cup Series
Dale’s sister Kelley Earnhardt Miller, who is also the co-owner of JR Motorsports hinted that the team is considering moving into the Cup Series.
During an interview, Kelley said, “It’s all about timing. What’s going to make sense, right? So, we were thinking through it last year, in terms of the new car. Obviously, that kind of propelled our thought process on that barrier of entry and what we thought would be more competitive.”

Moreover, she mentioned not being in a hurry and will make it happen when the timing feels right.
