There are now only two races remaining in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series regular season. Making the championship fight even more exciting, there is just one Playoff seat remaining. Kevin Harvick snatched the penultimate seat when he won at Michigan and won again at the Richmond Raceway.
Now, the battle is between Ryan Blaney and Martin Truex Jr. for that final transfer spot.

In a recent podcast, NASCAR spotter Brett Griffin suggested that Joe Gibbs Racing might help with team orders. He even cited the example of Dale Earnhardt Jr, Clint Bowyer, and Michael Waltrip Racing to justify his point.
He said, “Last week, it was about team orders to get Truex in the Playoffs.”
“Every organization wants what’s best for that organization. If you’re Michael Waltrip Racing at the time. You want two cars in the Playoffs or one?”
“You want two, so you call your race accordingly. I think what transpired there, I don’t think Clint Bowyer did anything wrong.”
“Because I’ve seen people wreck on purpose for 40 f**king years of my life. God d*** it, I just lost a 100 dollars.”
“Dale Jr admitted to wrecking on purpose at Bristol. When a driver wrecks another driver on purpose, it is intentionally bringing out a caution.”
What incidents was he referring to in relation to Martin Truex Jr?
Admittedly, the Dale Jr saga and the Clint Bowyer spin were two separate incidents. In 2004, Dale Jr intentionally spun at the Bristol Motor Speedway and later got fined because he confessed to doing it on purpose.

On the other end of the scale, Bowyer’s incident happened nearly a decade later in 2013 at Richmond. Around that time, teammate Martin Truex Jr. was close to qualifying for the Playoffs, and the spin and caution helped.

Griffin continued, “That’s why they got $300,000 dollars worth of fines. They were put out of business. That’s when Napa raised their hands and said, ‘We’re leaving’. I will go to my grave saying Clint Bowyer didn’t do anything wrong.”

Of course, it is safe to say that Joe Gibbs Racing may not try something that egregious. However, they could try to help Truex Jr win one of the remaining two races and qualify for the 2022 Cup Series Playoffs.
