Jimmie Johnson All Set to Race in this Week’s NASCAR Cup Race at Kentucky

Jimmie Johnson has successfully recovered from COVID-19. Today, it was announced that he tested negative for the disease. And is set to return this week for the Cup race at Kentucky.

As per the team’s official announcement, “He tested negative twice this week – on Monday and Tuesday – and was cleared by his physician Tuesday evening in accordance with NASCAR guidelines.”

Johnson expressed his gratitude for the support he received from fans and fellow NASCAR drivers alike. He said, “My family is so grateful for the incredible love and support we’ve received over the last several days,”

Jimmie Johnson appreciates Allgaier for stepping up

In the statement, Johnson appreciated Allgaier for stepping up to fill his shoes in the number 48 car at Indianapolis. he said, “I especially want to thank Justin Allgaier for stepping in for me at Indy and being a true pro. I’m excited about getting back to business with my team this weekend.”

In the race, Justin started the race from the last spot and was climbing the grid lap by lap. However, he was hit in a multi-car crash during the 12th lap.

The incident ended his race and spoiled his Cup series return. Allgaier made a comeback to Cup series racing after four years.

After the race, he opened up to the media on the grid. He said, “Sorry, guys. Not the way I wanted to have today go for you guys. I’m really sorry.”

After that, he expressed his disappointment with the result. He said, “Once the wreck started happening in front of us and we all got bottled up there, one car after another were getting run into.

“It‘s just a shame. I hate it for these guys on this Ally No. 48. They‘ve done such a great job. They‘ve prepared so well for the circumstances.”

He added, “Obviously, our hearts and thoughts are for Jimmie and his family right now. I wanted to do well for them today and it‘s disappointing to be standing here talking to you.”

Additionally, Hendrick Motorsports announced that all four #48 crew members were tested for COVID-19 and subsequently obtained negative results.
