Currently, the IndyCar drivers are at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for testing. During the session, media personnel caught up with 7-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jimmie Johnson. Apparently, he made some rather startling revelations, including a tease about a return to the Cup Series.

However, there were some caveats, as he would only return if the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval layout was used. Johnson also said that he would love a reunion with Hendrick Motorsports. Admittedly, it could be difficult to try and accommodate him, along with their other full-time drivers. Though it would only be for a one-off race, and he has had a few offers in front of him.

He said, “Honestly, I want to do it with Hendrick Motorsports. The way those rules are written, they can only run four cars. I’ve had a couple of offers, but nothing to really entertain me.”

What is Jimmie Johnson expecting in this IndyCar season?

So far, the 7-time NASCAR champion has had an up and down campaign. To be exact, he has struggled at the road course races, not even breaching the Top 20. However, he stormed to an impressive sixth place at the Texas Motor Speedway. Considering that an oval is a track layout that he is used to, it could have been a factor behind his great performance.

Unfortunately, he will have two road course races to tackle before his next oval race. To be precise, he is competing in the Grand Prix of Alabama at the Barber Motorsports Park. After that, he heads to Indianapolis for the road course race, before the iconic Indy 500. This will be the first time he ever competes in the legendary race, and he will be keen to perform well. In terms of the championship, he is one point behind Helio Castroneves and will be eager to overtake him and move up the ranks.
