Jimmie Johnson’s hopes of making the final playoff spot suffered a huge blow during Thursday’s NASCAR race as he was involved in a crash with several others. Johnson could not complete the race at Kansas Speedway and was placed 32nd.

The said incident took place on a restart with 92 laps remaining in the race.

It started with Joey Logano, who seemed to have a left front going down and came up the track. Several cars made contact right behind him.

After that, Jimmie Johnson’s car collided with Matt DiBenedetto, while Austin Dillon’s car also got some damage.

Maybe it was bad judgment, says Logano

Speaking to NBCSN after the race, Logano admitted that it could have been an error of judgment on his part that led to the incident.

I felt it going into (Turn) 3 right before we took the green and I felt it kind of landing on the splitter and honestly thought that the left front shock went bad,” said Logano.

He added, “It wasn’t like it was flat, it was just down a little bit. Maybe it was bad judgment on my part. I just thought it wasn’t that bad and didn’t want to lose all our track position for something I wasn’t sure of.”

Dillon, winner of the race at Texas last weekend, was eliminated by the incident. So were DiBenedetto and Logano. Jimmie Johnson continued, but he ran out of time on the Damaged Vehicle Policy clock and failed to meet the minimum speed.

Johnson took to Twitter after the race and said he had ‘nowhere to go’, replying to a Tweet by NASCAR that had a short clip of the incident.

After that, Logano spoke about the incident, “Hindsight is 20-20 and I apologize to everyone that was involved in it. It just stinks. It is one of those judgment calls. You are coming to the green and swerving your tires and something feels funny and you just aren’t sure.”

DiBenedetto also expressed his frustration after the race. “I just got clipped on the right side. Nothing I could do different,” he said, speaking to NBCSN.

“I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty freaking irritated. We have had garbage luck the last couple of weeks,” added DiBenedetto.

With seven races left in the regular season, Johnson lies outside a playoff spot. He is 18 points behind William Byron, who holds what would be the last playoff spot. Tyler Reddick and Erik Jones are the others in contention.
