Jimmie Johnson Reveals the Physical Intensity a Driver Faces During a NASCAR Race

Jimmie Johnson posts a screenshot of his heart monitor app to show the fans how much physically challenging a NASCAR race can be.

Most NASCAR drivers wear a heart rate monitor during the race to keep track of their vital stats. Inside the car, temperatures can reach over 140 F and the drivers endure a lot of physical hardship keeping the car on track.

After the Atlanta race, Johnson posted a picture of his heart monitor stats on Twitter. He wrote, “I love wearing a heart rate monitor to understand what I’m really dealing with within the car. While I’m impressed with my average BPM, my max is so close to my max.”

Johnson is referring tho the maximum heartbeat a person of his age can have without suffering any cardiac trauma. During the race, Johnson clocked an average heart rate of 149 bpm. Clocking a high average heart rate during any physical activity is common for athletes. However, the is still very high.

Additionally, he spent over 2500 calories during the 3.5-hour long race.

During his decades-long career, Johnson enjoyed dominance at multiple tracks but Atlanta holds a special place in the driver’s career. He holds a very strong record at the track with ‘top-10’ finishes in almost every race he ran at AMS.

And to celebrate his final NASCAR Cup Series race at AMS the organizers named a grandstand after Jimmie Johnson. Additionally, Jimmie got the chance to command the race to ‘turn their engines on’ for the very first time.

After the renamed grandstand was inaugurated Johnson posted a picture on his twitter. He wrote,I can’t explain how cool it is to have my name on the @amsupdates grandstands next to Petty and Earnhardt. I just wish my girls were with me for the picture.”
