They say that NASCAR is incomplete without on-track altercations, and the recent Xfinity Series race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway definitely served up a big one. A fight ensued on pit road after the race ended between Kyle Weatherman and JJ Yeley’s crew chief. Weatherman did his best to keep a calm head despite being pushed and shoved around, as he showed a lot of maturity compared to his assailant, who must have been a few decades older than him.

While on-track altercations are somewhat of a source of entertainment for fans, not always do they shed a positive light on the sport. 2023 was not a good year for NASCAR in that respect, as there were countless altercations, especially in the sport’s lower levels. These incidents received a lot of flak from some of the biggest names in stock car racing, but it does not seem like things have gotten better.

JJ Yeley brought out the second caution in the RAPTOR King of Tough 250 on Saturday, midway through the second stage. The veteran racer did a good job of keeping control of the #14 despite being involved in a heavy spin. The car that was responsible for the incident was the #91 of Kyle Weatherman. Yeley had to come into the pits after the contact, and speaking on the team radio, the 47-year-old laid out a stern warning for his younger counterpart.

What pit stall is the 91 in? He better have some pants on after this race because I’m going to come find him,” Yeley said, immediately raising concerns from some in the pits. The veteran racer did not confront Weatherman after the race, at least not in front of the cameras, but it looks like one of his senior crew members could not control his emotions.

A recent video uploaded to YouTube showed Jason Miller, crew chief of the #14 SS-Green Light Racing team, charge at Weatherman and engage physically as he got out of the #91. Thankfully, the 26-year-old’s crew members were quick to intervene and separate the two before the situation boiled over into something more serious. Yeley’s crew member could be heard pointing at the driver of the #91 and screaming, Next time you touch my race car!

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Kyle Weatherman simply laughed off the meltdown Miller suffered. After the race, the 26-year-old took to Twitter and took several jabs at the motorsports veteran.

It turns out that the #91 suffered LR damage during the race but still managed to finish in a fairly decent P17. Weatherman wrote about his day in the first of his many tweets and made a mockery of what the crew chief of the #14 did after the event. It must have been embarrassing for JJ Yeley and his team to see all of that go down on social media.

“Eventful day here in @ATLMotorSpdwy ended up P.17 right where we started 1) got LR damage really early and it was a parachute 🪂 after that ….. 2) right when I’m getting out of the car a crew member comes over to my car and wants to pick a fight 😂 @NASCAR official took him down just as fast as he came over,” he tweeted.

He then took a jab at JJ Yeley’s team radio message threatening the 26-year-old, as he tweeted, Also I can confirm I had pants on after the race,” and then shared an image of his pants. It was a field day for NASCAR fans on social media, who must have found the Xfinity Series driver’s X profile hilarious.

It will be interesting to see how the two drivers interact with each other the next time they’re close to each other on track. NASCAR is a competitive sport, and it would not be surprising if tensions boil over into something much more serious when that happens.
