Ty Gibbs is undoubtedly a talented NASCAR driver under Joe Gibbs Racing. As it happens, he is able to hold his own against his teammates Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr and Christopher Bell. Away from the race track, the 21-year-old can’t exactly claim that he is a perfect angel in the family.

When he was younger, much like any other child, Gibbs was pretty quarrelsome. This was especially when he was playing around with his siblings. During his childhood, the youngest Gibbs was prone to performing some stunts. Obviously, his parents would take him to task, but an angered grandfather was rare. However, when Joe Gibbs really got going, he was pretty terrifying.

He acknowledged on the Harvick Happy Pod, “The worst one out of all the stupid stuff I’ve done was shooting my brother with an air soft gun. About the distance between you and me. Just wide open and I hold it to him, and that was the first time and only time I’ve ever seen coach’s teeth. I was really young, so that one’s probably got to the top of the charts for me.”

Somehow, the #54 driver escaped his grandfather’s wrath. Thankfully, all that Coach Joe Gibbs did was clench his teeth in anger, otherwise it would have spelled trouble for the youngster. Joe Gibbs doesn’t really lose his temper often, but Denny Hamlin was once on the receiving end of it. This was in a racing situation ahead of the 2019 Daytona 500. During the practice session, Gibbs specifically warned his drivers to avoid practicing in a group. Naturally, he was looking out for the cars and hoping to avoid a wreck, which would have meant a late night for the mechanics.

Unfortunately, Hamlin disobeyed that order and ran into a group of fellow Toyota teammates. Soon enough, a pack formed, and Coach Gibbs knew what was coming. The inevitable wreck occurred and Hamlin got caught up in the crash. An incensed Joe Gibbs declared that Denny Hamlin would be the one handling the bill for the damages. Of course, a nervous Hamlin had no other choice but to comply with his boss’ order.
