Ty Gibbs closed out his first year in the NASCAR Cup Series by winning the Rookie of the Year award. Now, in his second full-time season, the driver of the #54 car has already turned heads with his performances. Ahead of the first road course race of the year, 23XI Racing driver Tyler Reddick spoke about his much younger rival and believes that a win is just around the corner for the 21-year-old racing prodigy.

This year has seen 5 Cup races so far and Gibbs has finished in the top 10 in 4 of them. These are numbers that even seasoned veterans struggle to achieve. He has been a bit unlucky at times, but the future of Joe Gibbs Racing seems to be in good hands.

Speaking to the media ahead of the race, the driver of the #45 car was asked about the prospects of Ty Gibbs winning a race. 23XI Racing and JGR work closely together, so it’s not a surprise that Reddick had a pretty good idea about what Joe Gibbs’ grandson is capable of. According to him, it is only a matter of time before fans see the #54 car on Victory Lane and its driver celebrating the victory.

Reddick said, “I mean he’s just learning a lot, and his speed is certainly there. You think of his experience level in the Cup Series and how tough that transition can be. I think he’s doing very well. He’s hard on himself and wants to win races as any driver does when they come to the Cup Series but yeah he’s right there. It’s just a matter of time and there’s no line to it. You just see the speed he brings to the race track, his ability and race craft’s improving, yeah, it could be any weekend”.

A driver might end up stealing most of the spotlight after winning a race. Yet, it is important to remember that a driver is only as good as their team. Thankfully for Ty Gibbs, he has a world-class group of people backing him.
