Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday. This has been the motto for NASCAR sponsors and team partners to engage with‌ race fans. At least, this was the case back in the day. We saw the automaker boom with Chevrolet’s “Racing to Road,” which started in the late 1990s and picked up during the 2000s. Fans attending the races at Daytona and Charlotte even got to experience the Chevrolet Camaro and Silverado. And it looks like one of NASCAR’s long-time sponsors is taking a page out of Chevrolet’s playbook in providing a genuine deal to race fans, which also has ‌huge implications on livelihoods.

Joey Logano’s longtime sponsor, Shell Pennzoil, has been offering a lucrative deal for fans. On paper, it looks like a normal fan activation, but as 2026 has progressed, their Race Day Rewards are acting like a boon for those who have been attending races. Here’s what’s pulling fans to the racetrack: Shell is offering 22 cents off a gallon on Sundays in a nod to its deal with Team Penske’s No. 22 Ford driven by Joey Logano. While Logano isn’t exactly NASCAR’s most popular driver, you’d be surprised to see the impact this promotion has made.

According to Sports Business Journal, Shell is seeing a massive uptick in its app subscriptions. A total of 395,136 people have opted into the program, and the offer has been redeemed 489,181 times. The opt-ins grew by 40,000 just in the last week alone. The catch here is that you need to be a part of the Shell Fuel Rewards, which is accessible through their app. So that explains the numbers part. But there’s more to this fan activation deal than meets the eye, and it is linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

The national average price for ‌gas at the start of the season was‌ $2.90 when this program was first unveiled, but it has since jumped a whopping 40% to $4.02, according to data from AAA. The incentive that Shell has been offering has helped families deal with the sudden surge in fuel prices. It is important to understand that in no way was Shell trying to make a profit from the Middle East conflict. In fact, the campaign, as mentioned, was launched before any of the conflict began. Either way, fans who are making this trip and signed up with Shell’s Race Day Rewards are benefiting. And this is a win-win situation for both parties involved.

Rather than doubling down on the promotion for this successful campaign, Team Penske and Logano have avoided being seen as profiteering from the war. Apart from this, Shell runs multiple campaigns, such as the Shell Fuel Rewards for Platinum members. And then there’s also 10¢ off per gallon for every $50 spent at participating restaurants with a linked credit card. This goes to show they weren’t planning to act like opportunists in the wake of a conflict.

The good news is that this isn’t a flash deal. Race fans will be able to make the most of it throughout the 2026 NASCAR season. “Now, with this amazing program, everyone has 37 opportunities, all season, to save 22 cents off per gallon on the scheduled race day! Sundays, and sometimes Saturdays, are special to me because I get to do what I love, but now fans can feel good about heading to the pump on race day,” Logano said during the launch event.

Interestingly, Shell isn’t NASCAR’s official fuel partner; Sunoco fuel holds that right and tag, and they too have a deal with Team Penske. However, this is more like a B2B deal where Penske car dealerships are filled up with Shell fuel before a customer takes their ride home. And if we are to go by the latest data provided by Shell, the positive response for their NASCAR campaign isn’t going to slow down anytime soon.

The month of March saw the highest sales and transaction volume ever for the Shell app, and it also broke its mark for the largest increase in 90-day active users. Users grew by 179,000 when compared to February, and the company has even admitted that this response has exceeded all their expectations.

Joey Logano, more or less, has been the face of the campaign. Shell kicked it off with a massive deal with Team Penske, and that seems to be going well for them. However, the team hasn’t been doing so well on track, especially with the #22 crew. Logano has been struggling, yet he believes he can save his season.

Logano lays out the plan to save his season

Unlike the previous seasons, Logano doesn’t have the option to win one race and get into the playoffs. Currently following the Chase championship format, the drivers will have to remain extremely consistent throughout the season, win races, and establish dominance at the top of the table to contend for the title – none of which the #22 car has shown so far.

But still, Joey Logano seems to be rather optimistic about his run going ahead this season. In fact, while speaking to Todd Gordon earlier, he explained that there is even a mathematical possibility of climbing the ranks within a single race.

“If you have a solid race where you can score 40 plus points, top five all day long, right?” he said. “And let’s say the #9, not wishing bad luck on anybody here. Let’s say he had a rack, or something went wrong, and he scored one or two, three points. All of a sudden, you’ve jumped that car that’s 5th from 12th.”

While it is quite understandable that such a result in a single race is unlikely (which Logano also knows), it gives him a sense of security in his campaign to chase the Cup Series championship.

He hasn’t won any races so far this season. In fact, the entire Ford lineup has only won a single Cup race, which came from his teammate, Ryan Blaney. But heading to the Talladega Superspeedway next, better performance can be expected from the #22 crew, as the entire Penske lineup has better odds of winning.
