Erik Jones recently found out that he is no longer going to race for the Joe Gibbs Racing team. As a result, there is a massive cloud of doubt surrounding his 2021 racing plans. The good news is that he found an empathetic ear in Joey Logano.

Jones revealed to reporters, that Logano reached out to support him in his time of need. He is seeking advice from as many people as possible to help him decide his next career move.

Admittedly, Erik Jones rarely interacted with Logano, since he raced for Toyota, while Logano raced for Ford. However, the two are kindred spirits, as they both raced for JGR’s No. 20. After leaving Joe Gibbs, Logano joined Penske in 2013 and bagged 23 wins and a NASCAR Cup Series championship.

“In this situation for me, I’m just talking to as many people as I can, just trying to get different sides of and seeing what they know and what they went through and how they would do it, and just getting a lot of different opinions,” Jones said.

“Joey and I met for lunch that week, and it was a good chat. We sat there for an hour, hour and a half, and kind of talked about what he went through at JGR, and obviously he got moved on from JGR as well around the same age that I was and had to find a different opportunity, so it was really interesting to hear what he went through and then what changed for him.”

What else did Erik Jones say?

The 24-year old confirmed talks with multiple teams and is assessing his options for 2021. Of course, he is banking on a decent result at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona to boost his chances.

The driver is torn between focusing on the current season and securing his future in the NASCAR circuit. Back in Michigan, he confessed that the move blindsided him. However, he is not holding any grudges about the decision. This is because, he understood where the team is coming from, from a business perspective.

It is also worth noting that the Joe Gibbs Racing team is recruiting Christopher Bell to replace Jones.
