There is no NASCAR without heated arguments and wrecks. This year, that has happened even before the official start of the season. At the Clash at the Coliseum event on Saturday, Joey Logano and Ty Gibbs got into a heated debate after the main race. This happened when Logano was heard saying that he’d remember what Gibbs had done and later on poured more fuel into the fire, as per a video released by NASCAR.

Logano’s issue? Ty Gibbs had run him up the track during a late restart, which he deemed dangerous. Regardless, it’s important to remember that the Coliseum track is a lot shorter and narrower than the ones in the Cup Series, so on-track incidents are more likely. But Joey Logano seemed adamant in his claim that Joe Gibbs’ grandson was in the wrong and that he would get back at him for it.

Will there be a season-long rivalry between Joey Logano and Ty Gibbs?

This is not the first time that Ty Gibbs and Joey Logano have had an altercation. Gibbs won Rookie of the Year in the Cup Series in 2023, and he was quite an aggressive racer. One of the drivers he bumped bumpers with a lot during the season was the 2-time Cup Series champion. Given their history, Joey Logano believes that it was not in Gibbs’ best interest to rile him up.

“He just used me up, all the way to the wall. There’s a fine line of pushing each other up a little bit, racing for a win, and using me up with the history that he has with me, is not a good idea for him,” Logano said in a video posted on X by NASCAR. If anything, it implies that the two will cross paths in the Cup Series again.

The former Cup Series champion did not speak about their pit road altercation immediately after the race but believed that the driving out there was too aggressive. “The racing is usually an eye for an eye more times than not, or trying to come out with some explanation of what happened,” Joey Logano stated as per motorsport.com.

Additionally, as far as Ty Gibbs is concerned, it was nothing more than hard racing, and a lot of fans would agree with him. The Coliseum track is a lot smaller than the others, and there was always going to be a degree of contact and racing in close quarters.

Joe Gibbs’ grandson attributes the on-track incident to hard racing

As per motorsport.com, Joe Gibbs’ grandson did not see what he did wrong there. According to Ty Gibbs, reigning Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney was also involved in pushing Joey Logano up the track. But the 2023 Rookie of the Year said that everyone was sliding around, and he just happened to get tangled with the driver of the #22.

“I ran him up, but if you go back and look at the replay, the #12 kind of chucks him out of the way too. It is just hard racing there at the end. This place is really hard to get your tires warm once the caution comes out – as you could see, everyone was sliding around, so I just got in there deep and washed up into him. We just got all tangled up after that,” Ty Gibbs exclaimed.

It’s hard to judge who’s right and who isn’t in these kinds of scenarios. Some fans will have a biased opinion based on their allegiances, but for neutrals, it is hard to ascertain if Ty Gibbs was the culprit. Do you think Joey Logano is making a big deal out of it? Let us know your thoughts.
