During the recent awards ceremony in Nashville, the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Champion, Joey Logano was asked about his relationship with the recently retired Kurt Busch. He was also asked if he thought NASCAR should have honored Busch for his contributions to the sport over the years. Logano answered the questions while also seemingly taking a dig at NASCAR.

Logano stated, “you know my relationship with Kurt is a competitor… When I came in as a rookie, Kurt was one of the few people who actually talked to me. To me, it said a lot about his character and I got to spend time with him over the years… What I’d say is his involvement in the driver advisory council, he was the most impactful person… Especially when he got hurt, he was all in, like… He took that time to really grow our sport. Shows to me a true champion, a true Hall of Famer. Like you said we should’ve honoured him tonight…”

During the later part of this season, Busch finally announced his departure from the sport he loved while delivering a teary-eyed statement. What NASCAR should have done, was to at least give him a small honor during the award ceremony. However, since that did not take place, Logano did make his statement where he mentioned that the sport should have done something during the award ceremony.
