Since the first couple of races of the season, Bubba Wallace has not finished in the top 5 but that all changed in Martinsville. The 23XI Racing driver finished a fantastic P4, a much-needed result after the last race’s disappointment. Back in the day, when he was in a similar situation, he labeled it ‘karma’ after making contact with Kyle Larson and losing track position. This time, he called it ‘solid.’

Bubba Wallace recalls the despair from the previous races

Ever since the first couple of races, Wallace has failed to finish in the top five but on Sunday, he earned his season-best finish. He was Hendrick Motorsports’ closest competitor, which truly is saying something. Speaking about the race, he looked back at all the frustrating races as he celebrated a well-deserved top-five finish.

It was solid. It’s nice to be able to take some things back that I learned in the car on where we can be better and debrief about it instead of being p**sed off, frustrated, bad luck, or whatever happens, karma, but definitely learned a lot today so excited to get back to the shop…tomorrow, debrief and if we come back tomorrow to race, I think we could be even better. Hats off to everybody on the #23 car, this McDonald’s Toyota Camry was really strong all day. Lost a little bit on that last stop but never give up on restarts so it was good for us, something to build on and we go to Texas,” he said after the race.

Things could have gone the other way for Bubba Wallace. He was the victim of a dodgy pitstop, but it was not long before a caution flag fell. That helped him save his race massively.

According to the 30-year-old, the balance was not the best. It must have been a struggle for him to maintain those high speeds and keep control of the vehicle, but that’s precisely when the caution flag fell. Despite the mistake, Bubba Wallace was full of praise for his team, and he should be.

“I thought everybody executed really well today,” he said, as per On3. “We just got behind on that [pit stop]. I’m sure it’s a tenth of air pressure. That’s small of adjusting can take you out. We’ll figure it out, but I appreciate everyone’s effort. From Monday to Sunday, it’s 1000 percent effort, and I’m appreciating that for sure.”

“We were behind as soon as we came out of the pits, the balance wasn’t there, so I was just hanging on for 100-plus laps, and luckily a caution fell. We were able to net a couple [of] spots,” the 23XI Racing star added. After such a great result, Bubba Wallace will be hoping for a race win in the regular season. Will he be able to do it? Let us know what you think.
