For a while, NASCAR has been contemplating the idea of hosting a street race. The location for this would be in Chicago, but the idea has met some resistance. Now, a recent video clip has emerged which has fuelled the anti-Chicago race sentiment. Over here, there was a muscle car performing donuts on the road that had attracted a crowd. Furthermore, there were police cars nearby, but they didn’t really react. Shockingly, Chicago mayor hopeful Paul Vallas blamed NASCAR’s influence.

This is especially on the back of news of the series wishing to host a street race. Vallas tweeted, “No need for Chicago’s mayor to bring NASCAR to downtown Chicago. It’s already here. We’re the police allowed to make any arrests? Impound any vehicles? Impose any fines? Videos like these will sure help bring businesses & visitors to our city.”

NASCAR Fans Slam Chicago “Disaster” After Latest News Emerges
How did the NASCAR community react to his scathing comments?
Naturally, many fans did not appreciate his accusations at all. Most of them insisted that the NASCAR drivers are professionals and would not indulge in anything so reckless. Instead, this scene looks like something out of a Fast and Furious movie, back when it was still about street racing.

The fans justified that when NASCAR does have its eventual street race, the roads would be closed up to form a proper track. This would completely eliminate any talk of danger to the public. Though if we’re being honest, a real and valid concern will revolve around the cost of hosting the event. Obviously, playing host to a NASCAR race is fairly expensive, and even more so for a street circuit.
