Kenny Wallace is not easily impressed. For a driver who is used to racing at 200 mph, even the famous Autobahn doesn’t satisfy the itch. The 61-year-old retired from NASCAR a decade ago, but he continues to miss the adrenaline rush that comes with living life in the fast lane. The Missouri native took a Mercedes out for a spin on his recent trip to Germany, but it seems like his driving experience didn’t live up to expectations.

The Autobahn, known for having stretches with no speed limit, allows drivers to go as fast as they want, provided the conditions are safe. However, Wallace seemed let down by the overall experience, despite his car reaching 158 mph on the highway. The veteran driver took to X to share a video speeding down the Aut0bahn and fans had some hilarious reactions to his evident disappointment.

Kenny Wallace rues his Mercedes’ underperformance

For racing enthusiasts, the Autobahn is nothing less than the stuff that dreams are made of. The network of German highways stretches to over 8000 miles, allowing drivers to push their cars to the limit on certain stretches. Giving racers the chance to go flat out without facing any repercussions is an experience motorsport enthusiasts desperately crave, and Kenny Wallace is no different. The veteran racer wanted to experience the freedom of the open road, and that’s exactly what he did while behind the wheel of a Mercedes.

In a video uploaded on social media, Kenny Wallace was seen pushing the pedal to the metal and wrote, “UPDATE on our Autobahn experience in Germany. After finding and turning off the limiter on our Mercedes, we did reach 158 mph 🏁” However, the 61-year-old seemed underwhelmed by the experience, and was heard saying, “I’m wide open. That’s all it’s got. That’s all it’s got right there.” Observing his reaction, one fan tweeted, “He sounds disappointed”, a tweet that was reshared by the veteran racer.

While driving at 158 mph would be a lightning-fast speed for casual motorsports enthusiasts, it’s not surprising that Wallace does not feel the same way. His career has spanned 25 years in NASCAR, with the Missouri native competing in all three national series at some point. Even though his time in stock car racing is a thing of the past, the 61-year-old continues to race on dirt tracks across the country as a hobby. So it’s fair to say that he knows a thing or two about getting the maximum performance out of his car while he’s behind the wheel.

It seems like Kenny Wallace is eager to experience all aspects of European motorsports before heading back to the United States. He was recently accompanied by 2002 24 Hours of Daytona winner Max Papis when the pair visited the Lamborghini headquarters, where they met the company’s racer Matteo Vecchi. The former Xfinity Series driver also visited Ferrari’s home in Maranello, from where he shared pictures of several exhibits including Michael Schumacher’s championship-winning Formula 1 cars as well as Enzo Ferrari’s office.

Fans react to Wallace’s German Adventure

As expected, plenty of motorsports enthusiasts reacted to the 61-year-old’s video that was uploaded on social media, showcasing his experience at the Autobahn. Despite observing the disappointment in the Missouri native’s voice, an X user couldn’t help but find the situation funny, especially because Wallace was driving at a speed that would be considered too fast by casual racers. The fan wrote, “The greatest tweet ever “That’s all it’s got” 158mph only the Herminator 😂😂😂.” Echoing that sentiment, another X user blamed Wallace’s NASCAR career for the underwhelming experience, going on to say, “Son!! I guess after driving 200 mph 158 is nothing!!”

Playing along with Kenny Wallace’s disappointment, a fan gave the veteran racer an alternate solution to make the most out of Autobahn’s no-speed-limit policy on certain stretches. The fan wrote, “That’s like running around Talladega under caution!!! Rent a Corvette Herm and have some 200 mph fun!” Another motorsports enthusiast urged the Missouri native to not be gentle with his Mercedes given the circumstances, to truly enjoy an adrenaline rush. The fan boldly said, “Good thing it’s a rental. Drive it like you stole it. Lol.”

Driving at 158 mph requires a set of skills that the casual driver may not have. Despite Autobahn’s high safety standards, accidents could happen, especially when cars are being pushed to the limit on the road. Concerned for Kenny Wallace’s safety, one fan expressed gratitude for his long racing career by saying, “Thank God for those trained racing skills.” The veteran driver will be looking forward to competing on the dirt tracks soon after Germany’s famous highways failed to scratch the itch.
