With the 2023 NASCAR season done and dusted, certain insiders feel the need to keep themselves occupied. The off-season can get a bit boring for some NASCAR fans and experts. To that end, Kenny Wallace has decided to show fans what they might need if they ever decide to build a race car. However, the cost of some of the parts has left fans completely baffled.
It is no secret that motorsports are expensive. Be it stock cars, single-seaters, or motorbikes, there is always a substantial initial cost that the driver will have to bear, at least in the early stages of their career. Kenny Wallace perfectly demonstrated this in a recent episode of The Kenny Wallace Show.

Kenny Wallace re-affirms the age-old truth: motorsports are expensive
One of the first components that he unveiled was the motor, which alone cost a whopping $25,000. Kenny Wallace might not have been aware of the exact specifics of the motor, but since it was built by his good friend and master engine builder, Darrell Hoffman, the 60-year-old had full confidence in its performance.
“This is about a $25,000 motor; this is a 400-something cubic inch; I don’t know exactly. Hey Wallace, how many cubic inches is it? I don’t know, and I don’t care. All I know is that Darrell Hoffman built this motor, and it’s gonna haul a** so that’s about a $25,000 motor,” Wallace said.
One of the most important components in any race car is a carburetor. If your carburetor isn’t good enough, neither will your car be. So it is understandable that a former motorsports athlete like Kenny Wallace would go for a cheap model. As he unveiled the carburetor, the 60-year-old revealed that it cost about $1800.
“This is a kicka** carburetor; I’m not totally going to unwrap it, but here is about how much did his carburetor cost me. $1800? About $2000. Hey Wallace, where’d you get all that money? It’s just that’s what you’re gonna pay too,” he added.
While it is common knowledge that it takes a lot of money to build a top-notch race car, fans were still shocked at just how expensive the components were. Commenting on the video that Wallace released on YouTube, fans expressed their views on the cost of just some of the components of the car.

One fan was appreciative of Kenny Wallace being open and transparent about the huge costs required to build a race car.
“I like that you let us know that this doesn’t come cheap. My uncle kept the cost of race cars from my aunt a secret for decades,” they commented.
For others, there was simply the shock of just how much one has to spend to build perhaps even a halfway decent race car, let alone one that is top-notch. One user suggested that you’d have to be ready to lose a ton of money at once.
“The first thing you do in building a race car is accumulate a pile of money that you are willing to see disappear,” they wrote.
One fan, who perhaps isn’t a motorsports athlete, revealed the massive disparity between his personal car and a race car.
“$25,000 motor, that cost 3 times as much as my car is worth,” they commented.
