Race winners usually take home the chequered flag after the race as memorabilia. A young fan, wearing a Kevin Harvick No. 4 shirt, got the opportunity to hand over Sunday’s chequered flag to Harvick. After Harvick’s heartwarming gesture, the young fan’s father tweeted a video of the incident and thanked Harvick for the incredible gesture.

The chequered flag of a NASCAR Cup Series playoff race is a cherished piece of memorabilia for every NASCAR fan.

Harvick won his eighth race this season and started the playoffs in the best possible manner. However, it did not come easily. He fought off a late challenge from Austin Dillon to win by just 0.343 seconds.

This is not the first time Harvick appealed to his younger fan base. Back in 2018, after winning at Texas, he took a selfie and handed over the chequered flag to another young fan.

Harvick connects with fans at Darlington

Kevin Harvick seemed to have an emotional night when it came to the fans. After letting the young fan keep his chequered flag, Harvick had a message for all fans in attendance at Darlington.

The first thing I want to say is ‘Welcome back, fans! This interview is a hell of a lot more fun with you guys up there,” Harvick said in his post-race interview on the track. “Just want to say thank you to everybody. From NASCAR to all of you fans here in South Carolina,” he added.

This is Harvick’s 57th NASCAR victory. It takes him to ninth on the all-time winners’ list. He will now start in the front row for the Playoffs race at the Richmond Raceway.
