Roush Fenway Racing has just been firing blanks since the start of the Cup Series season. The big concern for the team is their co-owner and driver, Brad Keselowski‘s, inability to convert the good runs into wins. Despite two top 5 and a top 10 finish out of the four short track races, the veteran driver was unable to end his winless drought, which now stands at 105 races.

Keselowski, after the early disappointments, did shut down a narrative of being in a hole. However, after consecutive mediocre results in the last two races, Kevin Harvick thinks that the veteran RFK racing driver has failed to make the most of the opportunities on the short tracks. He even made the bold claim that he might not be able to win a race this season.

Last season looked like a huge turnaround for Keselowski in trying to adapt to the Next Gen car, which raised hopes for him coming into the 2024 season. Unfortunately, even after signs of improvement and true potential, the driver just hasn’t been able to cross the finish line and bring home the win. It was back in 2021 when Keselowski went to victory lane, but going by the current trend, even Kevin Harvick believes his chances are slim to register a win this season.

Dissecting the Martinsville race weekend, Harvick was asked about the biggest upsets for the season so far and without hesitation, he pointed at RFK Racing. “I think the RFK guys have just not run as well as I thought they would on all the short tracks. These places that went to that, I really thought that they would stand out like they did last year, hasn’t been the case,” Harvick said via his podcast show.

He was critical of Brad Keselowski’s run so far and expressed concerns over his output so far in the season. “Brad struggles this weekend, they did okay at Richmond and Bristol, but they didn’t really stick out. Like they just ground out a top 10 and put themselves in the position to be there late in the race, but I’m a little concerned. I really thought Brad would go out and win a race this year, and right now that doesn’t look to be the case in my opinion.”

With almost 10 races into the season, it is indeed an alarming sign for the RFK Racing drivers who haven’t yet secured their playoff spot.

If we are to compare the results of two RFK Racing drivers, Chris Buescher, and Brad Keselowski, Buescher is more likely to churn out winning performances. The driver of the No. 17 Ford Dark Horse has five top-10 finishes, including a top-5 finish. Had it not been for Christopher Bell at Phoenix, he would have been in the victory lane.

As far as Keselowski is concerned, maybe Harvick was right in his assessment of him not being able to have a shot at winning races this season. Because, for the time being, HMS and JGR drivers, along with a couple of Toyota teams, have been pulling ahead of the Ford drivers.

The only positive for RFK racing is that they will have enough chances to make that big leap forward. But that again is a long shot, given how they have performed since the start of the season.
