NASCAR has always been much about tradition and the Martinsville Speedway is one of the venues where tradition plays a big role. Apart from the grandfather clock, the Martinsville hotdog is an important piece of tradition. So Kevin Harvick had no choice but to try one. But when he saw broadcast colleague Clint Bowyer not doing the same, he called him a party pooper and mentioned his double chin at a recent episode of the Happy Hour podcast.

Kevin Harvick gets a taste of Martinsville’s decades-old tradition

Fans in Martinsville love their hotdogs. After all, it is the most popular food item at the track and it has been that way for decades. The hotdog is different from any other in the country- with its bright red color and its tangy Southern preparation. It’s not just the fans, drivers too have tried the iconic snack and it has usually received positive reviews. Kevin Harvick was also impressed. But what cracked him was his co-commentator looking after his health by eating plain pasta.

Harvick said, “Mike Joy was like “you are not leaving this booth until you eat this hotdog.” That hotdog sat there for a little bit and finally I was like “my god. I have to eat this hotdog” so they found one with no onion and it was actually pretty good. I actually like hotdogs and that one was pretty good. It looked terrible, tasted fine. So Mike and I had a hotdog and old party pooper Clint…trying to figure out how to get rid of the second chin. He is the one that brought up his second chin and he has said he is very much working on trying to get rid of it by eating plain pasta”.

Getting made fun of by the 2014 Cup Series champion was not the biggest thing that Clint Bowyer had to worry about over the course of the weekend. It was his wife being unhappy and hungry with no food around.

Clint Bowyer’s poor planning got him into trouble with his wife

Kevin Harvick revealed that his broadcast colleague probably got yelled at by his wife for some poor planning at the Martinsville Speedway. Firstly Bowyer’s significant other did not even want to make the trip in the first place. Not only did she make the trip, but had to drive all the way. And then when she reached the track, it turned out that her husband had not arranged any kind of food for her to eat after the journey.

“This is the same guy who drove his motorhome up there and got to the racetrack and had no food. So he left the booth on Saturday saying, “man I’m in a hell of a mess here.” I said, “what’s wrong” and he said, “my wife’s gonna be pissed at me because I haven’t had any food. I made her drive up here, she’s not really wanting to be here this weekend and now we have no food in the bus so I’m probably headed back to get an earful,” Harvick revealed.

Now the next Cup Series race is at the Texas Motor Speedway and if there is one thing Texans are super passionate about, it is their food. So maybe that’s somewhere Mrs. Bowyer would prefer to visit without having to trust her husband to arrange for some food after a long and tiring journey.
