With yet another exciting race around the corner, fans are excited as ever. And with just hours remaining for the flag to fly for the 2023 Coca-Cola 600, the focus is on last year’s 600-miler, the longest race of the NASCAR schedule. Ahead of the race, NASCAR’s own ‘bad boy’ Kyle Busch gave his thoughts on the previous iteration of the race where his then-teammate, Denny Hamlin clinched the victory despite Busch’s superb early stage run.

While the #8 driver is yet to try out his Richard Childress Racing‘s Chevy at the 1.5-mile long track, Busch gave the community his blunt thoughts on the “big point reward” the never-ending 400-lap race has to offer.

Despite changing lanes and landing at RCR, Busch also opened up about Hamlin’s win at the coveted track last year, mentioning how Kansas slipped away from him.

Kyle Busch Recalls Last Year’s Coca-Cola 600 Where His Former Teammate Trumped Him Despite a Dream Start

Last week’s controversial race did not impress the community. While the All-Star race hyped the return of the iconic North Wilkesboro track, the short track had nothing dramatic and spontaneous for fans. The 200-lap race was over before it even started with Hendrick Motorsports‘ Kyle Larson taking home the 1-million cash prize.

Well, that’s about to change this week. Charlotte Motor Speedway is about to host the longest race on the schedule, the Coca-Cola 600. While it was Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin that had the last laugh last year at the North Carolina track. When asked about this at the pre-race press conference, Busch revealed how he himself ruined the race despite having a strong start.

As per the video uploaded on YouTube by Kenny Wallace, when asked about his attitude coming into the race given last year’s race at the track, he said, “Yeah, we had a really good car early in the race, and then I spun and kind of ruined it. We had a bad race through the middle and we just missed all the wrecks and were in a good spot at the end. We got lucky to actually finish second. It would have been really fun, yet lucky, to win and beat out my teammate Denny (Hamlin) last year. His car was still in good shape and mine was not.”

With the two Toyotas across the line for Joe Gibbs Racing at first and second places, last year’s Coca-Cola 600 certainly had all the thrills and frills. Another aspect of the last season was that it had Busch’s older brother Kurt Busch who was also a solid competitor on the track.

Then, the #8 driver gave his thoughts about the upcoming race despite not having driven his Chevy here. One this is for certain, he has out the last year’s incident in his rearview mirror.

2023 so far has been a rough affair for the ‘bad boy’. With 2 wins this year, he is currently at 11th in the points table. Busch managed to create a whirlwind when he conquered Talladega earlier last month, landing his new sponsor in brief trouble.

Apart from the occasional spark, his current season is plagued with misfortune. It was bad luck that cost him NWB when his Chevy simply underperformed. This even raised a lot of questions. But against all odds, Busch showcased a brilliant performance.

“Overall, yeah just want to get out on a 1.5-mile track again. Like I said, Kansas was a really good run for us. We got in a bad spot and we crashed, so it would be nice to come back out here and have a good, strong run. Get a top-five and some good points out of this race. There are four stages this week, so that’s going to be a big point reward. Hopefully, we can do a good job,” said Busch.
