NASCAR clearly takes technical violations very seriously. At the Darlington Raceway, a number of drivers were hit with penalties for technical violations. Among them were #18 driver Kyle Busch and #14 driver Clint Bowyer.

Those two got off worse, because they will be heading to next weekend’s race without their crew chiefs. Busch’s and Bowyer’s crew chiefs received a one-race suspension because their cars each had two unsecured lug nuts.

As a principle, NASCAR never fails to conduct post-race inspections of the cars. The officials pay extra close attention to the lug nuts after each race. If they deem that at least two lug nuts are not secure properly, the respective crew chief gets a one-race suspension and and $20,000 fine.

What does this mean for Clint Bowyer and Kyle Busch?

Admittedly, this could be a big blow for both drivers. This is because, Bowyer is sitting, just shy of a transfer spot to enter the second round. As it turns out, he is level on points with Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Aric Almirola. However, since Almirola has had a better finish, he holds the advantage, heading to Richmond.

Meanwhile, Kyle Busch finds himself on the edge of the Top 10, seven points ahead of Almirola and Bowyer. Without a doubt, he will have a giant target painted on his back.

It is also worth noting that Busch and Bowyer were not the only guilty parties. Apparently, NASCAR officials discovered that William Byron and race winner Kevin Harvick had one unsafely secured lug nut. The good news was that Harvick was allowed to keep his win, and only copped a $10,000 fine for his crew chief.

However, Harvick, Austin Dillon, Kyle Busch and Alex Bowman’s cars had to be reviewed. It is common for NASCAR to take cars back to theit R&D Center for examination. Fortunately, these inspections only serve to provide information, instead of being scrutinised for penalising drivers.
