There are just four races left in the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, including this weekend’s race at Kansas. This means that time is running out for the defending champion Kyle Busch to get a win.
Admittedly, it is strange to see that the previous champion has done little to defend his crown. To make things even more difficult for him, he is officially out of the running for the Playoffs.

This means that he has no chance of getting a pole position for the final four races. Truthfully, pole position usually gives the driver an advantage to win, so that would be a huge boon for someone like Kyle Busch.

If he cannot win at least one of the last four races, he would be the 3rd defending champion to go winless in the following year. The last two drivers were Benny Parsons, who won in 1973 but failed to reach victory lane in 1974.
Surprisingly, the other driver was none other than Dale Earnhardt Sr, who won the 1980 championship but failed to get a win in 1981.

Can Kyle Busch win a Cup race in 2020?
To be perfectly candid, he has what it takes to win races, but there were occasions where lady luck was just not on his side. Coming into these four races, he has registered wins at all four tracks on different occasions and different years.
So it has nothing to do with a lack of intent on his part as the closest he came in 2020 was a 2nd placed finish at California, Darlington, Atlanta, and Bristol.

He also has one win in the bag in 2020, albeit in the Xfinity Series at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. In addition to that, he has three Truck Series wins at Las Vegas, Homestead, and at the Texas Motor Speedway. This is more than enough to prove that he is certainly trying to bag a win in the Cup Series.
This weekend at the Kansas Speedway, Busch is set to start the race all the way in 20th place. So this will be a massive mountain for the 35-year-old to climb.
