Recently, NASCAR posted a picture of an incredible record pertaining to the number of laps led. Jimmie Johnson rules the roost, with an astounding 18941 laps. However, Kyle Busch is right on his tail with a grand total of 18380 laps. The best part is that Johnson will no longer be able to add to that tally, as he has retired.

On the other hand, Busch is still racing and is only 561 laps away from him. Considering that the early stages of the 2022 Cup season are still on, it allows Busch plenty of time to catch and pass Johnson. All that he needs to do is consistently hit the front for as long as possible.

Apparently, Kyle Busch reacted to the incredible statistic and so did his teammate Denny Hamlin. The #11 driver pointed out that there is little chance of anyone catching him, as Jeff Gordon has also retired. Meanwhile, Kevin Harvick and Hamlin himself are miles behind Busch.

What did Denny Hamlin tell his teammate Kyle Busch?

The #11 driver teased Busch, suggesting a potential ‘KB retirement tour’ on the cards. However, Busch expertly turned the tables when he insinuated that Hamlin was referring to his brother, Kurt Busch. Since Kurt was older, it would have made sense, but the driver has no plans to hang up his boots. The same applies for Kyle Busch, as he hunts for his first win of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.

It is also worth mentioning that aside from chasing Johnson’s record, Busch is eyeing another one. To be precise, if he triumphs this season, he will tie with Richard Petty for the most consecutive seasons with a win. Admittedly, he has come close on many occasions this year, with a season-best 4th place on home soil at Las Vegas. Fortunately for him, the season is long and he has plenty of chances to bag that elusive win.
