After two long weather delays forced the second half of the Ally 400 to be raced Sunday night, Elliott came to life and survived a late-race warning to win at Nashville Superspeedway and his second win of the 2022 season of NASCAR racing Nashville Superspeedway last week. But at the final pit stop, Kyle Busch dived into the pits for a two-tire strategy. Thereafter, things went haywire for Busch.

Wrong call for two-tire strategy

The 1.5-mile Nashville Superspeedway gave the number 18 driver a headache. Kyle Busch came into the pits only for a two-tire change. Therefore, restarting on the sixth row at the final restart. However, Christopher Bell, Ross Chastain, Bubba Wallace, and Brad Keselowski ran into the corner four wide. That happened right in front of Busch and put him in dirty air.

Things did not get better as the number 18 driver started losing momentum. Denny Hamlin bumped into Cole Custer at turn three. Sending him down the track and crashing into the side of Brad Keselowski. With Kyle Busch right behind as he took off, three cars drove through the interior. Two more had a run and went past him, carrying Kyle three-wide into turn one.

Handling headaches for Kyle Busch

The two-tire strategy seemed like the wrong call, as Busch’s car was noticeably tight. Even if he went all the way inside, he would still have to lift out of the corner as he would have gone off the track on the exit. When he tried to get on top, it was more obvious. Tyler Reddick drove into Busch and took away the low line.

Busch ran the top. The car would not turn due to the dirty air. But with one lap to go, Busch was done lifting out of the corner when the car got close to the wall in turn two and again in turn four. He held the throttle and rode the wall, forcing the car to turn.

In an interview, Kyle Busch explained, “Uh just the car didn’t turn very good on two tires and I got in the wall and when I was up there it was over with and just try to get back to the start-finish line as fast as I could.”
