Recent events in the NASCAR world have been quite interesting. Amid the exciting race at Martinsville Speedway, the sanctioning body has landed itself in troubled waters again. This time, the penalized entity is the #3 Chevrolet Camaro driver, Austin Dillon, burdened with a penalty of 60 drivers’ and 5 Playoff points.

After the race at Martinsville, NASCAR found modifications in the #3 car’s underwing and imposed the penalty. However, in the aftermath, it was not Dillon but his Richard Childress Racing teammate, Kyle Busch, who came out swinging as he jabbed a fresh cut against NASCAR alleging favoritism.

Busch feels the penalty to be “excessive,” in light of the organization’s winningest team getting away after being caught for illegal modifications—that too in four of its cars!

Kyle Busch lands a fresh jab as he points out the obvious disparity!

Things haven’t been great for the organization, especially since the whole penalty fiasco. It all started when NASCAR served Hendrick Motorsports and Kaulig Racing with massive penalties for altering or modifying the hood louvers of their cars. Despite the harsh penalty on all four of its teams, Hendrick Motorsports managed to successfully reinstate the point penalties after their first appeal, while Kaulig Racing did not receive a similarly lenient treatment.

With this brewing in the background, Rowdy did not hesitate as he bluntly voiced his concerns. Calling out NASCAR’s favoritism, in an exclusive to Frontstretch, Busch criticized the organization’s stand deeming the penalty “way too excessive.”

As per the NASCAR rule book, the penalty imposed on Austin Dillon was for a violation related to “Underwing Assembly Mounting & Underwing Stay Assembly Hardware.”

Reacting to the news, Busch said, Stiff penalty procedure for messing or tampering with stuff on this car, which I understand. And a lot of it, you know, to some of the stuff, like the penalty on the #3, it feels way too excessive of a penalty for what actually went down.

“Where you’ve got the other side (HMS) of it, where they were manipulating parts ad changing parts and pieces, and it all got wiped away.

“I don’t know uh its a mess right now, I would say.”

Following the race at Martinsville, Stewart-Haas Racing also bore NASCAR’s wrath when the sanctioning body took the #41 car for further inspection. While the SHR car managed to slip away, RCR’s #3 did not have the same fate as the 60 drivers’ points and 5 playoff points were stripped away, along with the suspension of its crew chief for the next two point events and a hefty fine of $75,000.

As mentioned above, things went from bad to worse as the organization found an illegally modified part on one of HMS’s cars one of Kaulig Racing’s following the race in Phoenix Raceway. While many enthusiasts bashed the organization for its unnecessarily bold punishment, things quickly turned sketchy when the most influential and winningest team in NASCAR was found to have modified parts not in one, but all four of its cars.

Even more worrisome was the fact that HMS was somehow able to completely reverse NASCAR’s judgment related to the points penalty, while Kaulig Racing could only get a section of the penalty modified.
