Beyond race weekends, Kyle Busch rarely has time to focus solely on his career these days. As the full-time coach and father to prodigious driver Brexton, Papa Busch certainly has a lot on his plate. However, even that seems modest compared to the jam-packed schedule that B-Rex follows. Testing sessions, practice days, and training have become routine for the 9-year-old. This hard work was visible when Rowdy got worked up, maintaining a winning streak against his son in their head-to-head.

Kyle Busch has made sure that he builds his son’s life around racing, and not to limit it to NASCAR only. Already amassing over a hundred race wins, B-Rex remains a top name across dirt, pavement, outlaw karts, and other formats. But being too good too soon has its share of issues. Even Rowdy admitted to putting B-Rex into tougher situations, saying, “Honestly, he’s not suffered in many things. He’s been really good right out of the box in all the things he’s done.” This is why he is planning something tougher for his young boy!

How much is enough for Brexton Busch?

Sitting for a podcast with Freddie Kraft, Tommy Baldwin, and Karsyn Elledge, Rowdy revealed his not-so-safe plan for his firstborn. As he was asked about his son’s schedule, there was a lot to pack in from his answer. “This weekend, we’re going to Kansas as long as the weather lets us,” Busch explained. “We’ll go to Missouri. There is a big race out in Missouri this weekend. And next weekend, while we’re actually out there in Kansas. So, I’ll run on Friday night with him, but I can’t run on Saturday.” Not only this, but the weekdays seem to look even exuberant. It’s either a training day or a testing day for the two.

“We’re testing a Legend car. We’ve already tested three or four places this year,” Busch added on the Door Bumper Clear show. “We’re going to test it again on Wednesday. You know Joe Ryan, those guys with the Legend cars. So, we’re working with those guys for a little bit. I’m doing my own program, but with some Joe Ryan’s help.” At the mention of Joe Ryan, Rowdy explained how he has been planning B-Rex’s next race with the Legend car mogul. “His first race will be at Hickory, May 22nd at Hick. Joe Ryan is like, “You are crazy. That place is fast. It’s sketchy,” Kyle added. “You don’t want your kid to run his first race at Hickory. I said, ‘Throw him to the wolves.’Well, this is not the first time B-Rex would have felt like being thrown to the wolves.

On 27th March, 2025, the duo raced nose-to-tail with Kyle Busch fifth and Brexton Busch sixth for much of the night’s 20-lap feature in the 600cc Winged Micros class, but the elder Busch escaped to a third-place finish on the final restart with six laps to go while Brexton earned an impressive sixth-place result in the 20-car field. And do you know what Papa Busch said after the race? “It was cool. One of these days, we’ll get to battling it out and swapping back and forth, hopefully. But for a first-nighter, that’s definitely impressive for a 9-year-old to come on out here,” he said. But will he race for that long?

It is not unknown that Kyle Busch is going through a plateau at this point. As he has been vocal about his performances, be it in Atlanta or Alabama. However, it is rare for his fans to see him disheartened or even with a lower morale on any race day. Well, there is a small 9-year-old reason behind his optimism.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Kyle Busch pushing Brexton too hard, or is this the making of a future champion?

It was on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast that Rowdy revealed what is keeping him afloat during this time. “I look through it through my son’s eyes sometimes because he talks about how Owen [Larson] gets to go celebrate with Tiny Kyle [Kyle Larson] and when he wins, and he gets to go run out on the racetrack and get a ride to Victory Lane and all that. And Brexton, when we were in our highs of 2015, 16, 17, 18, even some of 19, we won four, five, six, eight races a year in those years. And so he was too young to really kind of remember it and take part in those because he wasn’t that perfect age of running out to the track, you know.” While Kyle seems ready to put his son through the rough races, he has many demons to conquer in his career ahead. Given how his season is currently going, it looks like he is taking an alternative way out of racing when the time comes.

Kyle Busch’s evolution from a racer to a father

Among the few drivers with a personality in NASCAR, Busch is at the forefront. What else earned him the ‘R0wdy’ moniker? But now, the Rowdy is slowly becoming mild. Well, his beautiful little angel, Lennix Key Busch, might have been the ‘key’! Ever-aggressive Rowdy has toned himself down. He was seen talking to Dale Jr.’s protégé before the race at COTA this year. What would you think if you saw a veteran driver talk to a new one? You would probably feel that there is some word of advice. But who needs that advice in reality?

Well, if you think Busch advised Connor Zilisch, you might need to rewire your thoughts. In a recent episode of a SpeedFreaks interview, Zilisch came clean. The hosts asked him if any veteran driver ever went up to him for advice. Laughing at it, the JR Motorsports Xfinity Series driver said, “Nobody has asked me for advice. Kyle Busch, I was talking to him before the race at COTA, and he was asking for advice for his for his kid and how he should take his career with Brexton.” Did we hear it right? Was Rowdy asking a young driver for advice? No, it was Papa Busch who wanted a few tips. But this speaks volumes about his character.

Connor Zilisch appreciated what Busch did, saying, “Brexton’s gonna be really good one day. And, it was kind of cool to talk to him about his future and what his plans are with Brexton.” This silent appreciation also tells about how Rowdy is more concerned about his son’s development than his own performance.
