Kyle Busch Proudly Responds to Criticism for Potentially Missing a Race Due to Impending Child Birth; Answers NASCAR-Paternity Leave Question

For the next couple of weeks, it is going to be a very nervy time for Kyle Busch and his family. This is because he and his wife Samantha are expecting the birth of their child very soon. In light of this, the Joe Gibbs Racing team have confirmed that Trevor Bayne is on standby.

In the event that Busch has to leave when the surrogate goes into labor, Bayne will hop in. The #18 driver revealed that he had no say in choosing his substitute, but he did speak to Bayne a few times. When Busch finished his test, he gave the other driver a full briefing, so that he was not out of his depth when he stood in for him.

Kyle Busch confessed, “I think it’s always a hard decision, but I think you can live down missing a race. You’ll never live down not being there for the birth of your kid.”

What else did Kyle Busch say about leaving to witness his child’s birth?

On an interesting note, the 2015 and 2019 champion made a surprising admission. He said that he has not spoken to NASCAR about taking sudden paternity leave. So that could be a very interesting situation when his future child eventually decides to greet the world.

Obviously, when the time comes, Busch will follow protocol and ask for permission to leave. His team has already given their blessing to leave and be with his family. So all that is left is to go straight to the top of the pecking order and ask NASCAR for permission to leave.

Whether the head honchos will grant him leave for a few days is another story altogether. On the bright side, he has already snagged a win this season, so he is comfortably through to the Playoffs. For now, Busch has competed in this weekend’s race at Darlington, but his participation at Kansas could be in doubt.
