Recently, Kyle Busch spoke about a variety of subjects and even dropped a few personal secrets. Chief among those was the fact that he almost elected to go down the baseball route.

Busch admitted that he loved racing in NASCAR and didn’t know anything else. He also said, “I was maybe going to be a baseball kid when I was growing up.”

However, he was given a choice between racing or baseball, so he settled for racing. This is because it looked a little more ‘fun’ and interesting. Since then, he has never come to regret that decision, and his two Cup Series championships prove it.

How did Kyle Busch perform in the 2020 season?

Admittedly, Busch did not enjoy a particularly good season, as he almost went winless during the season. In the end, the playoff race at the Texas Motor Speedway kept his streak alive. That Texas win means that Kyle Busch has registered a win in 16 consecutive seasons.

This ties him with Jimmie Johnson and Rusty Wallace, with only David Pearson and Richard Petty ahead of him. If Busch Jr bags a win in the 2021 season, he will tie with Pearson. In addition to that, he will need at least two more seasons with a race win to hold the record.

As it turns out, Petty has gone 18 consecutive seasons with a race win. So Kyle Busch will be keen to try and go 19 consecutive seasons with a race win. Since he is 35-years old, he has a great chance to break the record. Especially considering that Jimmie Johnson stuck around until he was 45.

By this logic, Kyle Busch can go on for a few more years. However, given that he barely squeaked out a win this year, he could find it difficult. Unless he has a really strong car in 2021 and can adapt well to the Next Gen car in 2022, Petty’s record may be difficult to achieve.
