Heading into the Round of 12 elimination race at the Charlotte Roval, Kyle Busch faces an uphill task. The reigning Cup Series champion is 21 points off the final transfer spot and a maiden win of the season cannot come at a better time for Busch.
Make no mistake, Busch is very capable of winning on the Charlotte road course. He has won four times on road courses and has 19 top-10 finishes. However, the two playoff races at the Roval have returned 32nd and 37th place finishes for Busch.
At the Daytona Road Course earlier this season, he finished 37th after issues with his car ruined his day. However, Busch feels he can take a lot of positives from the Daytona race. Before his brake failures, Busch was very much in contention.

What Kyle Busch feels he needs to do at the Charlotte Roval
The Joe Gibbs Racing star said he has no strategy in place for Sunday’s race at Charlotte. If any, he wants to further implement what he did at Daytona and make it work this time.
“Don’t have any. Just race it out. Just race as best we can, as good as we can,” Busch said during a media interaction.
Busch highlighted his effort at Daytona. He was happy with how he was doing there, as he was in contention to challenge race leader Chase Elliott. “I made a lot of mistakes early on in the race, and we were still up to second,” Busch said.
“Trying to chase down (Chase) Elliott there towards the end to gain some of those seconds that he distanced us and the rest of the field by on a restart when I had to slice through traffic a little bit to get to second. Then we ended up having all our break failures.”

Learning from past performances
Busch expressed that despite the result, the performance at Daytona was a ‘big step in the right direction’.
“So we’re taking some of that similar philosophy there in order to see if we can improve on how our cars drive at the Roval.”

Busch has a lot riding on this Sunday’s race. He needs to avoid becoming the first defending champion to be knocked out as early as the Round of 12 since the playoff system started in 2014.
