Kyle Busch will be hoping for a better year ahead. The 2024 campaign didn’t go quite as well as ‘Rowdy’ had hoped, as he was winless in the Cup Series for the first in two decades. Despite his poor form for Richard Childress Racing, the 39-year-old appears to be in good spirits and recently competed at the Tulsa Shootout alongside his son Brexton Busch. With the Chili Bowl on the horizon, the Nevada native remains optimistic about his form, despite a topsy-turvy off-season.
Busch made use of some self-deprecating humor to acknowledge his poor form but gave credit where it was due at his son’s big night at Milbridge Speedway. Can ‘Rowdy’ turn his fortunes around in 2025 and become a force to be reckoned with once again? Time will tell.

Kyle Busch is enjoying dirt racing adventure despite new challenges
It’s a feeling Kyle Busch is unfamiliar with. Ever since his rookie campaign, the racing driver has secured at least one win every season and eight during the 2008 and 2018 campaigns. Triumphs in 19 consecutive seasons were a record that the Nevada native hoped would continue. However, bad luck, combined with a significant drop in performance, resulted in ‘Rowdy’ enduring his worst Cup Series season in recent years. He had the fewest top-fives, top-tens, and laps led in 2024, and an average finish of 18.3 was his worst since 2005.
Despite the bleak situation, Kyle Busch appears to be taking it all in his stride. The Richard Childress Racing driver made fun of his poor form in a recent dirt track award function, in a recent Instagram story uploaded by Samantha Busch, saying, “Some would say I’m not winning in NASCAR anymore so I’ve stepped back and race with the kids. Well, you’re right and it feels great. Because you know what? There are a lot of great, young, up-and-coming talent in the racers at Milbridge.”
Busch is hoping to gain some momentum during the off-season so that he can start strongly when the 2025 Cup Series season resumes at Daytona International Speedway. Reflecting on his journey while undertaking a wholly unfamiliar motorsport discipline, the veteran driver said, “I got into dirt racing a little bit more so I could understand the challenges that it takes with this type of racing. It’s been a challenging learning curve, tough to teach old dogs new tricks.”

As things stand, Kyle Busch has another year at Richard Childress Racing, after which he is free to pursue an opportunity in another team. The No. 8 Chevy hasn’t yielded the results he has expected so far, but leadership changes in the team might propel them to a better season in 2025. As for his son Brexton Busch, the 9-year-old has made quite a name for himself at the Tulsa Shootout and is looking like a promising talent who could make it to the NASCAR world one day.

Kyle Busch praises Brexton for Tulsa Shootout achievement
Dominating. That’s the right word to describe Brexton Busch’s performance at the Tulsa Shootout in Oklahoma. The youngster led all 20 laps in the Junior Sprint A-Main, holding off eventual runner-up Jax Whittmer to secure the Golden Driller trophy. He wasn’t the only son of a big-name NASCAR driver competing in the event, as Owen Larson, Kyle Larson‘s son, also participated in the race and ended up sixth.
Giving credit where it’s due, Kyle Busch was full of praise for his 9-year-old boy and wrote on Instagram, “24 hours later, and I still couldn’t be more proud of Brexton Busch. Biggest moment of his career and he drove a perfect race. All the hard work he and the guys put in all year paid off. Just a really proud dad right now.” Meanwhile, Samantha Busch also penned a heartfelt note for her son, in which she wrote, “It’s one thing to accomplish something yourself but the amount of joy, excitement, and pride that you feel when it’s your child is another level.”

It seems like the Busch dynasty is here to stay. Kyle Busch, 39 is in the twilight of his career and will be entering his third season with Richard Childress Racing soon. While there is no talk about retirement, ‘Rowdy’ can take solace because his legacy continues with his son, who is already showing tremendous promise as a racing driver. If Brexton Busch continues to progress the way he is, it’s only a matter of time before he makes it to the Cup Series one day.
