For Kyle Larson, the upcoming few weeks are gonna be pretty stressful. The Hendrick Motorsports driver will be attempting double duty on May 26, as he will be taking part in both the Coca-Cola 600 and Indy 500 on the same day. But is the stress of that doubleheader affecting the other Cup races? As per the former champion, that is not the case as he is only focusing on the task ahead at the moment.

Kyle Larson has a reputation for being one of the most versatile and talented drivers in the competition today. It’s no surprise that Arrow McLaren chose him for the biggest race of the IndyCar calendar. Taking up challenges has never been an issue for the driver of the #5 car and he is not going to budge from his process.

It takes a lot for a race car driver to get into that competitive mindset before a race and that process is different for everyone. Often in situations like these, a driver will make changes to their tried and tested preparation process. If that goes wrong, then it reflects on their performance on the track. And Kyle Larson is not going to do that.

“I race a lot of stuff and I prepare the same for all of it, Indy’s no different. I’m not racing sprint cars for another month but I’m not like worried about it either. I’m worried about right now. Maybe that will hurt me when it comes to Indy but I don’t think it will, I’m not changing my process,” the 2021 Cup Series champion said in a pre-race press conference in Austin.

Kyle Larson also shed light on the fact that having an approaching goal, that is huge for both himself and the NASCAR world, does not mean that he will shift his focus from what each weekend demands from him.

Kyle Larson understands that the Indy 500 will take a lot of work, but that does not mean that he is not dedicated to performing well every single weekend. Hendrick Motorsports put their faith in the driver of the #5 after what was a tough time in his life and he is fully focused on repaying that faith.

“I feel like to this point, I am as prepared as I can be…to the point now where I need to get on the track. We get on track in a few weeks and then I’ll be able to think more about the Indy500. I can’t take focus off of this because the Cup Series, it’s not like this stuff comes easy to me, it takes a lot of work. You have to dedicate a lot of time to this if I wanna be doing my team justice on Sundays as well,” he had said earlier in the press conference.
