Short tracks racing and Kyle Larson have been synonymous with one another for quite some time now. Despite racing in the Cup Series, the 28-year-old makes it a point to drive in at least some of these events during the year.

2020 was an especially fruitful year for the new Hendrick Motorsports recruit in those classes. Taking part in many series, Larson won some important races, including the USAC Silvercrown finale at the Springfield Mile.

What is more exciting is that he now reaps the rewards for some fine work in short tracks racing. Speed51 mentioned that FK Rod Ends has now determined that Larson is their ‘Short Tracks Driver of the Year’.

A statement on the website reads, “Throughout the 2020 racing season, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders voted on which driver had the most success on the track. The driver with the most votes was awarded “FK Rod Ends Driver of the Month.”

Larson actually started the year 2020 with a bang when he clinched his first-ever Chili Bowl Nationals trophy. He also then went onto win a few more races with his own World of Outlaws sprint car racing team.

“Now, with the 2020 season concluded, we have calculated the votes from throughout the season to determine the “Team FK Driver of the Year.

“After winning an astounding 46 races and posting a near-.500 mark, Kyle Larson has been named the FK Rod Ends Driver of the Year,” concluded the statement.

The ex-Chip Ganassi driver had considerable success in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series

Whilst participating across different disciplines of racing, Larson heavily featured in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. He accumulated 12 race wins in the season and achieved 19 top-five finishes as well. His list of race wins also includes the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win at the Port Royal Speedway.

Now, Larson takes on a new challenge with Hendrick Motorsports as a full-time Cup Series driver in 2021. It will be interesting to see how he manages that schedule with his dirt track racing commitments next year.
