Kyle Larson Feels He is Positively Impacting Diversity in NASCAR: “Now That I’m a Champion, It’s Going to Explode”

Following the 2021 season, Kyle Larson has become the newest NASCAR Cup Series champion. Recently, the Hendrick Motorsports driver spoke to CNN after his title triumph. Among other subjects, he talked about the impact of his title win will have on the Asian community.

Larson’s win is definitely historic, as he is the first ethnic NASCAR champion. He said, “It’s definitely a great honor to be the first Asian-American to win a NASCAR Cup Series championship. It’s not something that I set out to accomplish in that way. Now that I have, I know that I hold a much bigger role in the Asian community. So I feel like I’m doing something positive for the sport. Bringing new fans to NASCAR so I hope that now that I’m a champion, it’s going to explode. It’s definitely been an honor”

Now, the #5 driver will be eagerly waiting for the 2022 season to arrive. This will be his chance to earn a second consecutive championship. Nobody else has been able to clinch consecutive titles since Jimmie Johnson between 2006 and 2010. Without a doubt, Kyle Larson has become the spiritual successor of Johnson at Hendrick Motorsports.

However, he and his teammates and rivals know that the Next Gen cars could shake things up. This is because nobody has been in these cars in a racing situation. So in essence, everyone is going into the new campaign, blind. One thing is for sure, none of the drivers will give up the ghost. It is also worth mentioning that 2022 is bringing with it a whole host of changes.

Aside from the new car, it heralds, rule changes, schedule tweaks, a new track, and many more. So, there is a lot for the Cup Series paddock to look forward to. With all of this awaiting drivers, teams and fans, 2022 will definitely be a big and exciting year.
