Rick Hendrick made a bold move that other team owners tremble to make
Kyle Larson’s decision to race in various dirt races alongside his commitments in the NASCAR Cup Series stems from his passion for different racing disciplines and a desire to expand his driving footprint. In a recent interview ahead of Talladega, Larson explained to Dale Earnhardt Jr that it was a clear choice for him to commit to racing in these events.
Shedding light on the one request he had before signing for HMS, Larson stated, “It’s easy for me to get to, thank the Hendrick Motorsports, it’s very accommodating too with my schedule and knowing that these races are really important to me and my brand and all that. Yeah, that was the number one goal. It was for me to run all these and it’s gone well.”
He further added, “We have a points system, so I’m leading the points right now, Rico [Abreu] is I think only 30 points behind me or so, so I would like to beat him. It’s just been fun getting to do it all and in the track, going to Gold Cup a few weeks ago as a blast and it’s just, it’s been a really good time.”

In case you are unaware, Rico Abreu is a 31-year-old Californian racer who was introduced to sprint cars by our very own Larson.

Kyle Larson is about to live what most racers could only dream of
Hendrick Motorsports, historically wary of its racers exploring outside its jurisdiction, shook hands with Arrow McLaren from IndyCar racing to craft a jaw-dropping 1,100 miles of racing extravaganza on May 24, 2024. The recent collaboration between Hendrick Motorsports and Arrow McLaren aims to let Larson race in the Indianapolis 500 and the 600 miles at Charlotte Motor Speedway, all in one day!
“… I’ll have to give Arrow McLaren the credit because they had a plan and we looked at it. We’re starting to execute. Today was one of those days,” Hendrick had stated during the Aug. 13 press conference at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“Kyle’s been in the simulator some and, hopefully, we’ll be here in October for the rookie deal, and so the sponsor was no problem. We’re just really excited to think we can partner with a world-class team that has tremendous speed and reputation. I feel very, very fortunate,” he further added.
