There seems to be a misconception about the Joe Gibbs Racing-Kyle Busch situation. While many would think there’s a conflict of interest or intent between the two parties as they haven’t yet reached an agreement on the driver’s future, the problem seems to lie elsewhere.

At least that’s what Kyle Petty thinks.

“Here seems to be the problem: if you listen to the Toyota people and if you listen to the Gibbs people, is, they can’t find a sponsor for him. It’s not that they don’t want him, it’s just that they can’t find a sponsor,” the former NASCAR driver recently pointed out that.

“So the question that has to be answered, if Joe Gibbs can’t find a sponsor for him, who else is gonna find a sponsor for him?”

Petty described that in order for some other team to make room for someone like Busch, they’re gonna have to kick someone out. And not many teams, but one can do that, realistically.

We know Penske is not gonna kick anybody out for him, and Hendrick, he’s already run that route, they’re not gonna kick anybody out for him,” he added. “Stewart-Haas, they might kick somebody out.”

“That’s the only way it will play out.”

Kyle Busch has made peace in his head with the whole situation according to Petty

Having described the possible future destinations for Kyle Busch, Kyle Petty reasoned that in 2023, things won’t change much. And that is to say, things will remain the same.

“I think Kyle is gonna be back in the #18. And I took a different read from his stuff yesterday. I took that he had in pre-race, he had a great pre-race interview. He had a great post-race interview,” Petty said.

“He seemed to have made peace in his head that this is how it’s gonna work.”

Petty described that Busch feels he can make this whole thing work because he is willing to commit to Joe Gibbs, who in turn is also willing to commit to the two-time Cup champion.

As for whether it’ll actually work between the two, time will tell.
