Earlier this weekend, NASCAR visited the Los Angeles Coliseum for the first time for the Busch Light Clash. Although there were many doubts about the track, they were all put to rest. Suffice to say, it became a resounding success and this venue is now officially part of history if it wasn’t already. To be precise, the iconic venue has played host to several major sporting events. This includes two Summer Olympics, the MLB World Series, two NFL Super Bowls, NCAA events, and now NASCAR.
In all honesty, this was not a surprising move from the stock car racing series. In its history, the sport has touched base at several unusual destinations. Notable venues are Soldier Field in Chicago, a baseball stadium in North Carolina. a beach-road course in Daytona and even a rodeo site in Arizona. However, a race of this scale has trumped everything and practically raised the bar.

NASCAR went all out in promoting this event
According to former president David Israel, former president of the Coliseum commission, “It’s one of the oldest continually operating stadiums in the country and no doubt a cultural touchstone. It’s held more important events than most other places, and now NASCAR, which is kind of mind-blowing. How are they going to pull that off?”

In terms of history, it was inaugurated in 1923 and hosted several major sports events ever since. Aside from being the home of a few big sports teams, it has even hosted several monumental concerts. The most well-known were those by the Rolling Stones, U2, the Who, and Bruce Springsteen.
Given the scale and the caliber of events, one wouldn’t blame NASCAR for being under pressure to live up to expectations. To their credit, the stock car series took the challenge head-on. The best part is that the Busch Light Clash has been well-received. So this does make one wonder if there is a future for NASCAR at the iconic venue?
