John Hunter Nemechek’s move back to the Cup Series has begun gaining steady shape. In their latest announcement regarding the upcoming season, Jimmie Johnson’s Legacy Motor Club has unveiled that the experienced Ben Beshore will captain Nemechek’s #42 crew. Beshore and the driver worked together in the 2023 Xfinity Season and created a memorable impact by finishing 4th in the standings.

Their continued association will spell trouble for the contenders in the Cup Series should they be able to work forward with their efficient chemistry.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the 26-year-old John Hunter Nemechek would leave the camp of Joe Gibbs to join Jimmie Johnson in the Cup Series. In 2023, he drove full-time for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series, where he finished 4th in the standings. Considering the Legacy Motor Club will be his third team in the last 4 years, the move is bound to bring both the #42 crew and the youngster some much-needed stability.

The first union that came with Nemechek moving to LMC was the one with Toyota. Jimmie Johnson had announced that his team would be shifting manufacturers from Chevrolet to Toyota in 2024. For Nemechek, who has been racing in Toyotas since 2021, this meant good news. Along similar lines, Johnson has now also reunited Nemechek with his Joe Gibbs Racing crew chief, Ben Beshore.

42-year-old Ben Beshore had joined hands with the youngster this past season to win 7 races and reach the championship 4. Considering their blossoming chemistry and Beshore’s strong experience as a Cup Series champion’s [Kyle Busch] crew chief for 71 races, the duo is bound to set the tracks on fire next year.

In a statement from the team regarding the signing of Beshore, Nemechek said, “The partnership between driver and crew chief requires a type of chemistry that is hard to find. As a driver, if you’re lucky enough to find a crew chief that you mesh with as well as Ben and I do, you do everything possible to stick together.” The driver’s words reflect the respect and trust that he has in Beshore. Together behind the #42 car that Noah Gragson vacated this year, they should be able to take Jimmie Johnson’s ambition a great way forward.

Beshore’s experience makes him the perfect fit for an upcoming team like the #42. The chief began his career with Roush Fenway Racing back in 2007 as a race engineer. After 7 long years with the outfit, he transitioned to Joe Gibbs Racing where he worked in the same capacity for Kyle Busch’s team. In 2019, he was moved down to the Xfinity Series as a crew chief where he got to work with the likes of Harrison Burton. Finding himself in Kyle Busch’s company once again in 2021, Beshore turned out to be the champion’s crew chief.

Beshore’s stint with Kyle Busch brought him 3 victory lane visits, 23 top 5 finishes, and 39 top 10 finishes. The 71 races that they performed together led to him becoming the crew chief for John Hunter Nemechek in 2023. As he steps into the rings of the Cup Series once again, Beshore will long to stay here for the long term.

Jimmie Johnson is fully sure that he will do just that. He said in the team’s statement, “The driver-crew chief relationship is something I know well and it’s such an important part of the performance foundation. We are so thankful to see Ben join the Club. His experience with John Hunter and Toyota will help us with the transition and his on-track experience will elevate us in so many ways.” The combined potential of John Hunter Nemechek and Ben Beshore makes the #42 team one to be truly wary of in the upcoming season.
