“I think the Coliseum idea is to try to force them into a position where they have to fight it out. If they do, if they’re willing to go push each other around a little bit, that’ll be a pretty fun deal.” This is what Dale Earnhardt Jr said last year.

And now less than a year later, not only was the Clash a pretty fun deal, not only did the drivers push each other, but the Clash was a massive success on every level possible. This reignited the hope in the Hall of Famer’s mind about the inclusion of more short tracks on the NASCAR calendar in the future.

He tweeted after the Clash, “Wonder if this is what actually ushers in the long awaited short track revival.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr has been advocating for more short tracks for a while now

In one of the episodes of his podcast from last year, Dale Jr. had confessed how for many years he has been wanting to see tracks other than road courses, tracks which aren’t gimmicks.

“More short tracks. I’ve been saying that for years. I’m kind of even tired of hearing myself say it. We need some more short tracks just cause they’re fun,” he said.

Earnhardt Jr. also remained critical of the Portland track, which is part of the 2022 calendar.

“I took it as we’re not going to try to introduce a lot of new. We’re going to try to bring back some of the old. That made me think, OK, well, we’re going to maybe introduce a couple of short tracks,” Earnhardt Jr continued.

“We’re going to do less mile-and-a-halfs. We’re not going to try any kind of new gimmicky thing, right. But it just seems like there are a few new gimmicks coming down the pike.”
