There are two things that come to mind whenever a picture or video of the track at the LA Coliseum for the upcoming Busch Clash emerges. One, the fact they turned a football stadium into a NASCAR track is worth applauding. And two, is it big enough to be a racetrack?

And while the former is deserved, the latter also doesn’t come without any substantial backing. Especially now when we’re so close to the actual event and teams are hauling into the LA Coliseum.

For instance, consider the short video Team Penske recently posted on Twitter. In that video, driver Ryan Blaney ‘unofficially lead’ the lap against Chase Elliott, Bubba Wallace, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Now, before we all begin to wonder whether Dale Jr. is taking part in the Clash, he isn’t. The four of them were filming a promo, but that’s not the point.

The point is that in that video, one wonders just how would 23 stock cars engage in the activity of racing, something which is fundamentally based on the concept of trying to overtake and getting ahead.

And this is something many fans also pointed out in the comments of that video.

Toyota Racing President predicts an exciting NASCAR race at the Coliseum

Dave Wilson, the president of Toyota Racing, recently described how the unique situation heading into the Clash at the Coliseum suggests in terms of what we’ll see at the event. “What we spend a lot of time on is simulation, and of course we’ve never raced on this track because there wasn’t asphalt on it until very recently,” he said.

“But our rough simulation suggests that top [lap] speeds are around 44mph or something like that.”

Wilson explained how the Clash and its heat-race-like format will “certainly be exciting” since everyone is used to a lot of midget and dirt track racing.

And as for those worried about the carnage on such a short track, Wilson said, “If you look at it with your glass half full, how bad can we tear stuff up at those speeds?”
