Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson is well known for racing during the off-season and even in mid-week dirt races. However, this year things took a different turn. Late last year, news got around that he would not be participating in the Chili Bowl Nationals. His decision created a lot of noise as it had mostly to do with the size of the purse for the event.
Many fans assumed that missing the event where he had been a regular for 15 years would play on the back of his head and that he might miss it. But it turns out that it was not the case. The 2021 Cup Series champion recently revealed his brutal admission over his controversial Chili Bowl skipping decision.

During a recent interview, as shared by NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass on Twitter, Larson disclosed his true feelings. Talking about his late-model racing, Larson said, “Yeah, last week was fun. Got to run six late-model races. Came up short in every one of them. Just a little bit. But, had a blast. Finished second three times. Every night was exciting racing and yeah enjoyed every minute of it.”
When asked if he missed the Chili Bowl event at all. He replied, “Honestly, I didn’t and I know a lot of people will probably think I am lying. Because “how could Kyle Larson miss the Chili Bowl?’ But I didn’t have any FOMO. I was waiting on it every day as the week went on, I was like alright today we’re having to feel the FOMO. But I was surprised I didn’t. I really enjoyed watching. I watched a ton of Chili Bowl…I didn’t, surprisingly, miss it. I thought I would.”

If Larson is to be believed, he did not miss the event at all. Moreover, he was happy to have raced in the late-model racing series, even though he was unable to get any wins.

Despite missing out on the Chili Bowl on-track action, the Hendrick Motorsports star does not seem to be bothered about it. And why would he be? Especially considering that there are bigger races lined up for him in the future.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Larson would be allowed to participate in a doubleheader for 2024. He would be racing both in the Coca-Cola 600 event and the iconic Indy 500 on the same day. As per the latest reports, Larson and Hendrick Motorsports would be pairing up with Arrow McLaren’s IndyCar team. Certainly, this is a dream come true for Larson.
