NASCAR has always been a competitive and thrilling sport. The racing league has gone through numerous changes and additions over the years, including the Garage 56 project. However, recent comments by Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin on the Actions Detrimental Podcast have exposed the truth behind the project.

Hamlin’s comments were directed toward NASCAR’s decision to partner with Hendrick Motorsports. The latter was given a unique opportunity to participate in the Garage 56 project for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The decision was announced a day after NASCAR’s quarterly meeting with team owners was held last year. Hamlin had a thing or two to say about how it went down.

Hamlin expressed his frustration that NASCAR did not take the opportunity to inform team owners about this major news during the meeting. He further added, “That’s important information that needs to be shared but they wanted to keep it hidden until it actually came out.”

Hamlin considers such withholding-information tactics to be downright disrespectful to those who are the flesh and blood of the sport. He added, “was like, did you not think it’s important when all the owners were in the room yesterday to tell us about this huge news that you’re partnering with one of the race teams to do this program like that is just lack of transparency and respect for the people that put on the show for you every week.”

Calling the unwanted surprise “a headscratcher,” he gave the NASCAR audience a window to the aftermath from the moment NASCAR relayed the information to the parties concerned. He expressed, “Again it made so many teams mad, so many manufacturers mad that it was just bad.

However, Hamlin was far from done. He unabashedly called out NASCAR as he reiterated the last four words twice. He ended his piece with a prayer that they need to be productive about passing information at the right place at the right time.

Hamlin’s criticism of NASCAR’s lack of transparency is not the first time that a prominent driver has spoken out about the organization’s lack of transparency. Kevin Harvick recently called for the appeals process to be made more transparent and public.

In a recent interview, Harvick expressed his frustration with the lack of transparency in the appeal process, which he feels can lead to confusion and questions about the fairness of the penalties. Harvick suggested that appeals should be conducted publicly and live-streamed on NASCAR’s website.

Harvick’s comments highlight the need for greater transparency and accountability in NASCAR’s decision-making processes. Making appeals public would give teams and drivers greater visibility into how decisions are made and provide a greater level of transparency about the penalties that are handed down.

It is essential that NASCAR takes steps to address this issue and involve the teams in the decision-making process or it could prove to be detrimental.
