The formation of Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing came about quite rapidly towards the end of the 2020 NASCAR season. As Hamlin and Jordan have indicated, it was kind of a ‘spur of the moment’ thing. And before they knew it, Hamlin’s dream turned into a reality.

They then signed Bubba Wallace to drive the No. 23 car for one of the newest NASCAR Cup Series teams. While the team is just seven races into its inception, co-owner Hamlin already has bigger plans for the future.

The NASCAR superstar eyes a ‘multi-car’ 23XI Racing outfit sooner than later.

From this year and beyond, the goal will be expanding to two cars, then three cars, to make this a multi-car operation,” Hamlin revealed during an interview.

Hamlin himself drives for a multi-car team, Joe Gibbs Racing, which has also become one of NASCAR’s most successful Cup Series outfits in history. The no. 11 car driver sees the advantages of having multiple cars in his team.

The more race cars we field, the more opportunities we have to win. Making sure we have the smartest people and the best drivers is also really important for us and our on-track successes,” the three-time Daytona 500 champ said further.

The new team already has some crucial support from JGR, for engines, chassis, and other useful resources. On the manufacturer side of things, they have developed a relationship with Toyota.

These relationships will play a huge role in 23XI Racing‘s plans for expansion. Wallace is already driving a much advanced car than he did at Richard Petty Motorsports.

For now, the immediate focus will be on the maiden season for Wallace and the no. 23 machine. Hamlin is happy with the improvement already in the first few races of 2021. However, he has many stronger goals for the team before the season ends.

Part of those plans and goals is competing for race wins towards the end of the season.

We have a lot that we want to accomplish. I want to get our first top 10, then top 5. We’re running inside the top 10 pretty consistently, and we want to be contending for race wins by the end of the year,” the ‘Air Jordan’ athlete added further.

“In the summer, I want us to be running better than we were in the spring, and in the fall, I want to be running better than we were in the summer,” he explained.

Hamlin, Jordan, and the team’s plan to expand into a multi-car outfit is very exciting for their fans. However, Wallace’s results will play a huge role in dictating their future, and they will hope he gets to Victory Lane soon.
