A bizarre and unprecedented incident unfolded today during the Xpel 225 NASCAR Truck Race. Former IndyCar driver Marco Andretti was on the receiving end of the weird happenings at the Circuit of the Americas. Just as he was poised to take the white flag after Corey Heim, the entire rear-end housing of his truck unexpectedly detached.

Something that nobody has ever heard of in NASCAR history. The event eventually put Andretti out of the race. The No. 4 Chevrolet Silverado driver was visibly disappointed by the whole mess and opened up in the post-race interview.

A ton of fluid was put down on the track as the axle dislodged itself. After the unexpected DNF finish, the driver was caught in an interview by Fronstretch. The reporter asked him how he felt before the failure occurred in the rear housing. Andretti mentioned that it was the massive vibrations that led to this weird scenario. Throughout the interview, he seemed frustrated, which again is quite obvious. He was expecting COTA to be a breakthrough point for him this season. It was sad that it had to end this way for Macro Andretti.

“Just big vibrations through the brake pedal, throttle, and acceleration brake. Just huge vibrations. We were limping around. I didn’t have second gear. I would say I’m done with these character builders, I think my character’s built at this point. And we’re ready for a straightforward weekend because I haven’t been able to fight yet this season, and it’s getting a little frustrating. Yeah, it’s unfortunate,” said the No. 04 Chevrolet Silverado for Roper Racing.

The reporter went ahead and asked if Macro Andretti had seen anything like that happen to anyone. To which the Roper Racing star replied, “I’ve never seen that happen. I’m happy it didn’t happen, like, at speed speed. That would have been pretty bad.” It is indeed scary, we can only imagine what would have happened if this were at a crucial juncture of the race at high speed.

This incident occurred when Andretti suddenly spun in Turn 11. His truck slid across the track, veering off the racing surface. The detached rear-end housing rolled across the track and came to rest in the grass. This bizarre turn of events prompted caution, preventing the race leader, Corey Heim, from taking the white flag. NASCAR officials displayed the red flag to allow safety crews to bring out a flatbed and remove the rear-end housing. The red flag lasted approximately four minutes and 30 seconds.

Despite this setback, Macro Andretti finished the day in 31st place, while Tricon Garage’s Corey Heim secured his first race win of the season. Heim’s teammate, Taylor Gray, finished second. Other notable finishers include Ty Majeski (P3), Connor Zilisch (P4), and Ross Chastain (P5).
