If we’re being honest, the end of the 2021 F1 season finale was an absolute farce. Max Verstappen seized his maiden F1 title, but the manner in which he won left a bad taste in the mouth of not only fans but also the greats of the sport. Obviously, rival Lewis Hamilton was gutted because he missed out on a shot at history. Amazingly, he was able to smile and bear it, and heartily congratulate the Dutchman.

Needless to say, his ability to take the loss on the chin impressed F1 and IndyCar legend Mario Andretti. The Italian-American tweeted, “The Lewis Hamilton Master Class on how to be the best in every way. A champion who wins most days & shows the world how to behave & stay composed when situations aren’t kind to you. LH brings his A-game even when his soul is ripped out. Strength. Control of spirit. Role model.

Lewis Hamilton will want to come back stronger

In all honesty, how many drivers can proudly say that they were on the verge of creating F1 history? Hamilton had every right to believe that he was robbed, but he still held his head high. Nothing against Max Verstappen; both of them were worthy champions. Unfortunately, questionable FIA decision-making ruined what was an epic showdown.

An untimely Safety Car in the closing laps bunched up the field. Then, in a bizarre move, the FIA allowed Verstappen to overtake lapped cars and line up behind Hamilton. When the race resumed for a last-lap sprint to the finish, a vulnerable Hamilton on old tires was at the mercy of Verstappen on fresh rubber.

The Briton would probably like nothing more than to banish all memories of this loss; his focus will be on the 2022 F1 season, where he will look to come back stronger than ever. To be perfectly honest, Red Bull and Max Verstappen must watch out, because a motivated Lewis Hamilton is a dangerous Hamilton.
